Comments about Monster® iCarCharger 1000 for iPod® and iPhone™:

I bought it to charge my iPhone and play music through the aux port. First, I have had no trouble playing through the aux port like other users reported; it sounds fantastic on my Camry Hybrid's stereo system.

My problem is with charging. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it works for a short time, then my iPhone flashes a warning and says that charging is not supported with this accessory. There's no rhyme or reason. It could work for an hour's commute, or it could work for three minutes, then kick off, wildly causing the iPhone to flash a warning screen on and off. Bad.

Lastly, there's no way this could charge an iPad; it doesn't have enough power output to handle the iPad's higher requirements.

I'm very disappointed, and because it worked okay the first couple of days, I threw out the packaging, so I won't be able to return it. Monster Cable FAIL.

Comments about Monster® iCarCharger 1000 for iPod® and iPhone™:

I would love this product- it's a sleek idea. But it's implementation leaves much to be desired, especially at it's price point. While the dock connector cable does work, contrary to the packaging, the accessory isn't iPhone certified, so every time I plug it in, I have to 'dismiss' a warning from the iPhone.

Also, there's a hum in the audio out- again, a disappointment from a MONSTER product. I would expect they would either put some power regulation in the charger or something to reduce the power hum coming through. But I guess I was expecting too much? I think not.

And the power port charger is HUGE. There's no reason that it couldn't be smaller. The "cable wrapping" feature would be fine to be omitted if it was more of a slimline power charger.

But if the power charger needed to be so big, they could have at least put a retractable audio cable in. But it's manual- and so it's a pain if you want to take it in and out.

All in all, it's the right idea, but with it's huge charger, power-hum, and the apparent incompatibility with iPhone although it advertises that it IS compatible, I'm not very happy.

Comments about Monster® iCarCharger 1000 for iPod® and iPhone™:

The 1000 is attractive and works in my Mini pretty well. There were some odd things:

1. My iPhone was set to shuffle with a shake. I had no problem before with just a patch cable, but I plugged in this device and the random shuffling began. Turned off shake to shuffle -- solved.
2. The output is too hot, causing distortion. Turned on Sound Check and it mostly clears up the problem, but some podcasts are still a little distorted -- but I can live with it.
3. The connection to the phone is a little flakey. I often need to reseat the plug to make the connection work. I may be missing something in the procedure. It usually works the second time.
4. It's supposed to be iPhone approved, but my 3GS flashes an alert when I plug it in, telling me the device is incompatible. I haven't heard any radio noise, it could be the iPhone just doesn't see the right chip -- I don't know.

The audio problem is kind of a shame. The line out should be better than the headphone jack. I will say that it's nice not to have to adjust the volume on the iPhone and on the stereo. It's just a shame that the audio line out is too hot.

In general, it's OK. I'm not returning it. If you're an audiophile, you don't drive the car I do and you shouldn't buy this product. It is a convenient little product and, if sound quality isn't paramount, it's OK.

Would be great if it didn't cause a 'buzzing' sound. Even tried w/ a separate audio/aux cable connected to the iPod phone jack, but same problem. It's the charger/control unit itself (e.g. no/poor electrical noise filter)

         SAFETY TIPS

Important Monster® Performance and Safety Tips
        Listen Responsibly

To avoid hearing damage, make sure that the volume on your music player is turned down before connecting your headphones. After placing headphones in your ears, gradually turn up the volume until you reach a comfortable listening level.

Noise levels are measured in decibels (dB), exposure to any noise at or above 85 dB can cause gradual hearing loss.

Monitor your use; hearing loss is a function of loudness versus time. The louder it is, the less time you can be exposed to it. The softer it is, the more time you can listen to it. Refer to the chart* below.

This decibel (dB) table compares some common sounds and shows how they rank in potential harm to hearing.
        SoundNoise Level (dB)Effect
        Whisper30Very quiet
Quiet Office50-60Comfortable hearing levels are under 60 dB
Vacuum Cleaner, Hair Dryer70Intrusive; interferes with telephone conversations
Food Blender85-9085 dB is the level at which hearing damage (8 hrs.) begins
Garbage Truck, Cement Mixer100No more than 15 minutes of unprotected exposure recommended for sounds between 90-100 dB
Power Saw, Drill/Jackhammer110Regular exposure to sound over 100 dB of more than 1 minute risks permanent hearing loss
Rock Concerts (varies)110-140Threshold of pain begins around 125dB
"....a typical person can safely listen to an iPod for 4.6 hours per day at 70% volume."
"....knowing the levels one is listening to music at, and for how long is extremely important."

        Use Responsibly

Do not use headphones when it's unsafe to do so - while operating a vehicle, crossing streets, or during any activity or in an environment where your full attention to your surroundings is required.

It's dangerous to drive while wearing headphones, and in many places, illegal because it decreases your chances of hearing life-saving sounds outside of your vehicle, such as another car's horn and emergency vehicle sirens.

Please avoid wearing your headphones while driving. Use one of Monster's FM transmitters to listen to your mobile media devices instead.
