What is microfiber?
Microfiber is a tightly wound dielectric insulator wrapped around each different group of windings on each conductor. This helps maintain control over the effects of Monster’s Bandwidth Balancing design.


What is Time Correct technology?
Monster’s way of compensating for something called "Velocity Propagation" or better known as the skin effect. An analog audio signal passing through a copper cable succumbs to this law of physics in which bass frequencies tend to gravitate towards the center of the cable; higher frequencies are forced to the outer portion of the cable. The higher mass bass frequencies create a magnetic field in the center of the cable while traveling through the conductor, which impedes those lower frequencies. This impedance forces those lower frequencies to arrive at their destiny (the speaker or amp) delayed, which causes a mild distortion in the waveform. Monster utilizes multiple gauge windings to help compensate for this distortion. Large, solid-core copper strands in the center for bass frequencies (containing higher mass) and smaller gauges wrapped around the solid core conductor to delay the mid’s and high’s ensuring that the entire bandwidth of frequencies arrive in uniform.


What is magnetic flux tube?
This is a specially-designed dielectric tube that runs down the middle of a group of different gauge windings. This helps break up the magnetic field generated from the current flowing through the cable’s conductors. We wrap the larger solid-core conductors (the culprit of this magnetic field) around this dialectric for maximum affect.


How long can I run my speaker cables?
We recommend that if you run cable lengths in excess of fifty feet, you should use at least 14 gauge, 12 gauge is optimal.


What is the warranty on my cables?

Do I need a special type of cable to install behind walls/construction?
Yes, you want to use a UL(Underwriters Laboratory) approved cable. Monster Cable manufactures a full line of UL approved cables you can examine under the "Custom Install" category of the FAQ section.


What are Monster Locks?
Monster Locks are an original design concept created by Monster Cable for complete termination flexibility of your speaker cables. Special gold-plated high-performance termination blocks located at the end of each pair of conductors that are threaded. Next, purchase the correct Monster Lock connectors required by your amp and speaker configuration and simply screw them on. If ever the need to change that configuration occurs, you only need to change the connectors without soldering.


What is PEX dielectric?
PEX is a special dielectric or insulation that insulates each conductor from each other to help eliminate noise.


What are "turbine" connectors?
Monster’s unique turbine design allows for maximum contact pressure, contact points and contact mass, all of which are highly important for signal transfer. This design also adds strength and durability. It is often helpful to turn the connector clockwise, to the right, when plugging in or removing the cable.


Does Monster use oxygen-free copper?
Yes. Monster Cable uses extremely high grade, oxygen-free copper to prevent corrosion and maximize conductivity


What is Multi-Twist construction?
Multi-Twist construction is a design where the positive and negative conductors within a cable are tightly twisted together causing any external noise or interference to cancel itself out. This design was originally used by Bell Labs during its infancy to run long lengths of cable throughout the country to cancel out noise.


Why use braided copper and foil shielding?
Braided copper has been proven to the most effective way to repel RFI(radio frequency interference). Foil shielding is the most effective way to shield against EMI(electro- magnetic interference).


Why use gold plated connectors?
We use gold because it doesn’t corrode and looks excellent.


What should be the longest length to run my interconnect cables?
We don’t advise running your cables any more than thirty feet to prevent significant signal loss. If you are using balanced (XLR or TRS type) it is possible to run cables much longer.


Will I notice a difference if I hook up my cables in the wrong direction?
You probably will not, but if you think that you are experiencing noise problems, check that they are. Cables are directional for shielding purposes only. Should you not see these arrows, remember that the signal flow should go in the same direction of the print on the cable jacket, reading left to right away from the source (source to destination)


What is the "source" in terms of connecting my cables?
The source would be the origin of the signal or sound. This would be a CD player, phono player, VCR or whatever is generating the music or video and the arrows should point away from these "sources".


How long can I run an S-video cable?
We have run over 200 feet of S-video cable with almost no signal loss.


What is nitrogen-injected dielectric?
This is a dielectric molding that surrounds the conductor inside the jacket to maintain a 75 ohm resistance load within the cable. to keep a perfect 75 ohm load, there must be equal distance between the conductor and outer shield. to do this, we inject thousands of tiny nitrogen bubbles inside the dielectric that provides a walll between the conductor and shield. Maintaining this resistance is paramount for receiving a clear and precise picture.


Why do you use silver plating on the conductors?
We use silver plating because is the best conductor for electricity. Newer high-resolution TV’s as well as DVD’s and other digital sources of video information have an ultra wide bandwidth. To ensure the complete transfer of this ultra-wide bandwidth we chose silver.


What type of video cable is better?
From lowest to highest picture quality: composite (RCA or F-pin), S-video, component, and finally RGB.

What is a "switched" outlet?
This type of outlet is controlled by the on and off switch.


What is an "unswitched" outlet?
This type of outlet remains on regardless of whether the main power switch is on or off. This feature is useful for VCR’s, receivers (if the remote turn-on is utilized), satellite receivers and any other remote controlled devices where constant power is needed.


What is a Joule rating?
A unit of measurement used in surge protective devices to measure current absorption.


Why are the outlets labeled?
On our higher end units(1000, 2000, 2500, 3500 & 5000) outlets are grouped by filter types designated by the lables. The filters are optimized to filter these types of signal sources to give you the best possible performance.


Does any current Monster Power units have voltage regulation?
Yes, the AVS2000. See Monster Voltage Stabililzers


Do your RF splitters have impedance matching capability?
Yes! This will maintain the picture integrity of your video signal.


What is the signal loss of your splitters?
Each split adds only two to three decibels of loss!


Do I need a special "RCA" type of connector for video cables?
Though signal will be transferred, for optimal results you should use a video connector to maintain a precise 75 ohm load.


Will the in-line amp work on my normal cable TV?
Yes! The ultra broad bandwidth line amps will work on almost any video source.


Where do I find the Underwriters Laboratory approval number?
It is printed on the cable's jacket.


Will RJ-11 jacks fit inside the RJ-45 inputs in your telecom modules?
Yes, but RJ-45 jacks will not fit in a RJ-11 input.


Do I need special connectors for MV-Quad and RG6?
Yes, due to the larger diameter of our cable, use the respective connectors for each connection.


What is the bandwidth if your RF/video termination blocks?
Two gigahertz.


What do I do with the Coax/Phone Cables included with my Monster Power Center?
These cables are used to hook up cable lines and phone lines through the Monster Cables Coax and Phone line connections for proper surge protection.


What do I do if I hear a high pitched alarm from the Monster Power Center?
Audible alarm sounds when the protection circuit has been disabled. The product should be immediately unplugged. Contact your dealer or Monster Cable for service.


Can I leave my Monster Power Center on all the time?
Yes, there is no harm done to the Power Center if it is left on at all times.


Will the Monster Power Center restrict current to my power amplifiers?
No. On the models that contain High Current Filters, we have passed over 21,000 watts of power through to demonstrate its capabilities. For Monster Power Centers that do not have High Current Filters, the fillter becomes saturated for a few Milliseconds but does not impede current flow.

Are Monster Cable PS2 Gamelink Cables compatible with PS1?
Yes, these cables are compatible with both game systems.


How do I receive surround sound?
Surround sound is processed through a Audio/Video Receiver that is capable of decoding surround sound. Use of the Fiber Optice Toslink Connector, 100X or PLW100, is neccasary to transfer the surround sound information from your game station to your surround sound receiver.


Are Monster Cable Game Cables an officialy Licensed cable?
No, Monster Cable did not feel the extra money, to license the cables, was a good investment. Monster Cable would rather put more money into the technology of the cables. The consumer ultimately ends up with better performance from their game systems.


What are the lengths of the Gamelink Cables?
All Monster Cable Gamelink Cables are 10 feet long.


How do I receive High Definition from my game station?
Monster Cable Component Video Gamelink Cables will transfer Hi Def signals to your HDTV. Games must be encoded, in HD, in order to receive HD quality picture.


What do I do with the L/R analog audio cables if I am using the Toslink Cable for surround sound?
The L/R audio cables are not necassay to use when using the Toslink Cable for surround sound.


Why does my instrument cable have arrows?
There are two typical types of cable construction; coaxial and twisted pair. Coaxial construction, as used in our P500 Rock cable, consists of one conductor and the shield. Twisted Pair construction, used in our P500 Jazz and all Studiolink cables, utilizes two conductors and a shield. Connectors such as the RCA type and mono ¼" are considered Unbalanced connectors; due to their two contact surface areas, the tip and the sleeve. (Connectors such as XLR, TRS ¼" (Tip/Ring/Sleeve,) etc. are considered Balanced.) A coaxial cable terminated with an unbalanced connector, uses the conductor as the positive lead, terminated to the Tip, and the shield as the negative lead, terminated to sleeve. Monster Cable makes our Unbalanced cables, "Semi-balanced" by utilizing twisted pair cable. We use one conductor as the positive lead, terminated to the Tip, one conductor as the negative lead, terminated to the sleeve, and we terminate the shield to the Source side of the cable; thereby making the cable


Can my mic cable be used as a connection for powered speakers?
Yes - Powered speakers are expecting to see a Line Level signal, which Monster Mic Cables are capable of handling.


What is the Gauge of my Monster Speaker Cable?
Gauges are approx. in Monster Cables due to Time Correct windings and interior dielectrics: S100= ~16 Gauge, P500- ~14 Gauge and SP1000=~12 Gauge.


Will using a balanced 1/4" connector improve the noise rejection potential of my 1/4" connection?
Only if your 1/4" jack is balanced as well. Using a TRS (or balanced 1/4" connector,) in a TS jack can lead to signal loss. Use the right connector for your jack.


Will the Monster Cable SLDA88 snake work with my other DB25 connections?
Yes - As long as your DB25 connection follows the TASCAM pin out configuration.


How do I use a PowerBook as a DVD player on an external monitor or TV?
If your PowerBook has a DVD-capable optical drive, you can use your PowerBook as a DVD player to watch movies on an external monitor or television.

Basic Steps
1. Shut down the PowerBook and turn off the external monitor or TV.
2. Connect a video cable from the video output port on your PowerBook to the video input port on the monitor or TV. You'll have to find the right combination of ports on the computer and monitor or TV. For example, if your computer has an S-video output port and your TV has an S-video input, you could use that connection for the picture, and then connect an audio cable from the sound output port on your computer to the sound input port on the TV.
3. Turn on the monitor or TV, then start up your PowerBook. You'll probably also have to switch to the video input on your TV once it's on.
4. Make sure you can see the computer's desktop and menu bar on the monitor or TV. If not, ch


Is there a minimum number of playlist I should have setup in my iPod?
Yes. It depends on your factory car stereo. Between 5 and 10 depending on how many CDs your factory car stereo can control when it is connected to an external CD Changer. Most external CD Changers support 6 CDs, so 6 playlist should be the minimum. Most of GM vehicles, the external CD Changer can support 9 CDs, so you would need a minimum of 9 playlist. Name the playlist in the following format, 1iCruze, 2iCruze, 3iCruze or 1Classic, 2Rock, 3Jazz etc., so they are the first playlists iCruze “sees” when it connects to your iPod. Please also make sure that you have at least one song per playlist.


How many songs can I access on each playlist through my factory car stereo?
Unlimited. You can store an unlimited amount of songs on your playlists. Due to the limitations of most factory stereos you will only be able to directly access the first 99 songs in any playlist. If you allow the songs to continuously play, then you will be able to listen to more then just the first 99 songs in your playlist, but you will not be able to directly access them.


Will I still be able to use my iPod controls and display once I have connected to iCruze?
No. There are 2 reasons. #1 - It's a driver distraction and could be dangerous. #2 - For the utmost reliable data transfer possible, your iPod is placed into UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter) mode which prevents the onboard controls/display from functioning.


I don't use a playlist. How do I play my music?
Unfortunately, you will need to set up a playlist in order for iCruze to function correctly.

What is the largest speaker wire you carry that will work with the the Monster adapters for a Home Theater in a Box" (i.e. Sony "Dream" System) system?
16 gauge would be the largest cable recommended with the Monster Home Theater Speaker Connection Kit. Examples are XP and XP-CI for in wall aplication.


How do I add an AV component that was not added during the initial setup?
To add a new component: 1. Click Add a Device in the Device table on your home page and follow the wizard's instructions. 2. When you have completed the wizard's instructions click Update My Controller.


How do I remove an AV component?
NOTE: Removing an AV component is not recommended and should only be done if the component is not part of your entertainment system. If any modifications have been made to the component, you will lose the changes when you remove it. If a component is not working the way you would like, read the FAQs, use the Help button, or contact Customer Support before removing it.

To remove a component: 1. Click Remove a Device in the Device table on your home page and follow the wizard's instructions. 2. When you have completed the wizard's instructions click Update My Controller.


How do I ensure the Monster Update, Device Tutor, and/or Monster Upgrade programs open when I choose
To ensure the Monster Controller applications open:
A. Install Software
1. Verify that Monster Controller Software has been installed on your computer by looking in the Applications folder on your local hard drive for the application file "Monster Controller". If it is not installed, log in to your Monster Controller account and click Software. Then click Download for Mac OS X (1.9MB / 5 min @ 56K). Save the file to your local hard drive.
2. Open the folder where you downloaded the file and open the subfolder Monster Controller Software. Double-click "Monster Controller Software.mpkg" to start the Installer.
3. Follow the online instructions to complete the software installation.
4. After the software installation has been completed, the Monster Controller application will automatically start and the Monster icon will be displayed in the Dock.
5. If the application does not automatically start , use Finder to open the Applications folder and then double-click the


What is my Monster Controller home page?
Your Monster Controller home page provides specific information about: your AV components and activities

configuring your Monster controller

Your Monster home page displays two tables, one that lists Components and one that lists Activities.

Returning to Your Home Page To return to your Monster Controller home page at any time, click Home from any page in your account.

NOTE: If you are on the Welcome page, click Home and then click More Options.


How do I change my Login ID or password?
You can change your Login ID, password, or any part of the profile you entered during your initial account setup.

To change your Login ID or password:
1. Click My Profile on your home page.
2. When you are finished changing your login ID or password, click Next.


How do I teach commands to the controller?
1. Click More Options next to the device on your Monster Controller home page.
2. Click Learn infrared commands.
3. Select the commands you want to teach the component.
NOTE: To teach a command that is not listed, in the Learn a New Command box enter the name of the command you would like to teach and click Learn New Command.
4. Click the Learn Selected Commands button and follow the instructions to teach the commands.
NOTE: "Your original controller" will appear beside the command on the infrared language page, indicating the command has been learned correctly.
5. When you have finished teaching the commands, click Done to return to your home page.
6. Click Update My Controller.


What is the difference between analyzed and Raw commands?
The difference between analyzed and RAW commands is analyzed commands are a condensed version of the commands from your original controller. They have been matched to a language in the public database for your components. Analyzed commands are more versatile and will allow you to efficiently control your components. RAW commands are stored exactly as your original component sends them. If analyzed commands are not properly controlling a specific function for your component, then try RAW commands.


How do I add an Activity that was not added during the initial setup?
To add an activity that was not added during the initial setup:
1. Click Add an Activity on your home page.
2. Click No - manually add an activity to my setup.
3. Select the type of activity you want to add.
4. Choose the option that best describes the activity.
5. Follow the instructions in the activity setup wizard.
6. When you have completed the wizard's instructions click Update My Controller.


How do I remove an Activity?
To remove an activity:
1. Click Remove an Activity on your home page and follow the wizard's instructions.
2. When you have completed the wizard's instructions click Update My Controller.


How do I rename a Device or an Activity?
Renaming a Device
To rename a Device:
1. Click More Options beside the Device on your home page.
2. Click the rename option.
3. Enter a new name for the Device and click Save.

To rename an Activity:
1. Click Customize beside the Activity on your home page.
2. Click the rename option.
3. Enter a new name for the Activity and click Save.


Why can't I control the onscreen guide for my cable box?
It is possible the controller is unaware your cable box has an on-screen TV guide.

To control your on-screen guide with the controller:

1. Remove your current cable box from your configuration.
2. Add a new device: Digital Set Top Box.
3. After you have added the Digital Set Top Box you will need to run the setup wizard again by going to your home page and clicking Customize beside the Activity using the Digital Set Top Box.


How do I configure my Projector for two button presses to power off?
For specific instructions, click the scenario that best describes your power option:

a) My original controller uses two separate buttons for powering my projector on and off
b) My original controller uses one button for powering my Projector on and off


How do I change the list of Inputs for my Device?
1. Click More Options beside the device on your home page.
2. Click Adjust inputs and follow the online instructions.


How do I add an extra Device (Passthrough) and/or Command to an Activity that was not included in the wizard?
To add an extra Device or Command to an Activity:

Click Customize beside the appropriate activity on your home page.
Click Run the setup wizard again.
Follow the online instructions until you reach the "Confirmation" page. Select Yes, but I want to add more control of options and devices for this Activity and click Next.
Click Add next to the device(s) you want to control in the activity and click Save to continue setting up the activity.
Follow the online instructions until you reach the page with the heading "Choosing Custom Actions".
In either the Start Actions or Leave Actions table select the appropriate device to add action for, and then click Add.
From the next page, select the required IR, function, or input from the drop down lists.
You will be returned to the previous page and will see that the new operation has been added.
Click the Save button to save your changes and return to your home page.


How do I remove extra Commands from the startup of my Activities?
To remove an extra command from the startup of an activity:
Click Customize next to the desired activity on the home page.

Select Run the setup wizard again.
Follow the online instructions until you reach the "Confirmation" page. Select Yes, but I want to add more control of options and components for this Activity. Click Next.
You will now be given a list of components being used in the activity. Click Remove next to any component that is not required. Click Save.
Answer any questions that follow until you arive at the "Choosing Custom Actions" page.
Click the Remove button next to the command(s) you would like to remove from the list.
Once you have removed all of the operations for your Activity, click Next to save your changes.

Click Update My Controller.


How do I set the controller to leave my Digital Box, Satellite, PVR, Tivo®, Cable Box, or other component powered on all the time?
To set the controller to leave my Digital Box, Satellite, PVR, Tivo®, Cable Box, or other component powered on all the time:

1. Click More Options beside the component on your home page.
2. Click Adjust power settings.
3. Select I want to leave this component on all the time and click Next.
4. Answer any questions that follow.
5. Click Update My Controller.


When I watch TV, I would like to sometimes listen to the sound from my Stereo Receiver and at other times listen from the TV speakers when watching Television.
If you sometimes listen to the sound from the Stereo Receiver and at other times listen from the TV speakers when watching Television, add two separate Activities:

To add an Activity, please choose "Add an Activity" under the blue ?Activities" banner on your home page.

Choose No - manually add an activity to my setup.

Select the type of Activity desired.

Choose the option that best describes the Activity.

Follow the Activity setup wizard and choose the Television for sound.

Once you are back to the home page, add a second Activity by repeating steps 1 to 4.
Choose the Stereo Receiver for sound.

Choose Customize beside each of the newly created Activities and then choose Rename xxxx where xxxx is the name of the Activity.

Update the controller.


How do I setup Disc titles for my CD or DVD Jukebox?
To setup Disc titles,
1. Choose "More Options" beside the CD or DVD player on your home page.
2. Then choose "Change the Setup of this Device".
3. Follow the wizard (previous choices will be indicated with a green circle around the blue bullet) until the heading "Enter the number of CDs that your CD Jukebox can hold" appears.
4. Enter the number of Discs the Jukebox can hold and then click "Submit".
5. Choose the method of disc selection used by the Jukebox. When the wizard is complete you will be returned to your home page.
6. From your home page click on "Setup CD Media" next to the appropriate Device.
7. Enter the names of the Artists. Ensure that you enter each name in the correct row corresponding to the CD disc number (e.g. the number you would enter on your original remote to play that disc).
Note: please ensure you do not have duplicate names as only one will appear in the LCD screen of the remote.
8. Click on the links at the bottom of the page to


How do I add a Satellite Music Activity?
Choose Add an Activity under the blue Activities banner on your home page.
Choose No - manually add an activity to my setup.
Select Watch Television.

Choose Listen to Satellite.

Follow the Activity setup wizard.

Update the controller.


How do I change the length of the infrared command being transmitted?
To change the length of the infrared language,

1. Click on "More Options" beside the appropriate Device on yout home page.
2. Select "Troubleshoot".
3. Select "Show me more problems".
4. Then choose "My Device doesn't appear to receive every command correctly".
5. Choose one of the following:

My Device doesn't respond to some commands.

My Device responds too much to some commands. For example, volume up increases the volume too quickly.

6. Modify the number of repeats. The default is 3. Lower the number if the commands are repeating unnecessarily. Raise the number if the device does not respond to the commands.
7. Click "Save".

Update the controller.


My Device won't recognize the commands I have taught to the Monster Controller.
To teach commands for your Device that did not work properly in normal mode:

1. Click More Options beside the device on your Monster home page.
2. Click Learn Infrared Commands.
3. Click Custom. The page will reload.
4. Select the boxes for commands you would like to teach, and click Learn Selected as Raw.
NOTE: When teaching each command, press the button on the original controller for as long as required to control the device. The commands will be learned with the exact format that is sent by the original remote.

If you have any trouble teaching the commands in RAW, complete the following steps:

1. Verify you are pointing the original remote at bottom end of your Monster Controller, and are holding the remotes 2-4 inches apart.
2. Minimize the amount of light that could interfere with the learning process by covering the distance between the controllers. Block out sunlight, or turn off the lights.
3. Check that you have installed new batter


How do I adjust the Power Settings for my device?
For specific instructions, click the scenario that best describes the power settings for your device:

a) My original remote uses two separate buttons for powering my device on and off
b) My original remote uses one button for powering my device on and off
c) My original remote does not have power buttons or I would like to leave the device powered on all the time


Why does it take a long time to switch inputs?
When a Device is first entered into the web site, conservative delays are chosen between commands. This ensures that the Device is ready to receive each command sent to it. For most Devices this is acceptable, but for some Devices (such as televisions or cable boxes) it can be desirable to speed things up.

If the original remote for your Device has only one button that cycles through inputs, then choose 'Adjust Speed Settings' beside the appropriate Device, on your home page
When switching inputs, the 'Input Delay' controls the amount of time that the remote waits between sending the input command.
If the process is too slow, decrease the 'Input Delay' and click the 'Change' button.
Note: If you lower the delay too much, it is possible that your Device may not receive all commands that are sent to it, resulting in poor performance.
Update the controller.


When I press the Volume or Direction buttons, they move by two or three steps. How do I ensure that Volume or Direction Buttons only move one step?
To ensure that the Volume or Direction Buttons only move one step (no double commands), do the following:

1. Click on More Options beside the appropriate Device on your home page.
2. Select Troubleshoot.
3. Select Show me more problems.
4. Then choose My Device doesn't appear to receive every command correctly.
5. Choose My Device responds too much to some commands. For example, volume up increases the volume too quickly.
6. Change the number of repeats to 1. The default is 3. Lower the number if the commands are repeating unnecessarily. Raise the number if the device does not respond to the commands.
7. Click Save.

Update the controller.


When I change channels, the Television, Satellite, or PVR is missing numbers. How do I make sure no
To make sure numbers are not missed:
1. Increase the Inter-key Delay and click Change.
2. Click Update My Controller.
NOTE: If numbers are still being missed after several attempts at modifying the Inter-key Delay, set it to 500 ms, and move on to step 3.
3. Ensure that the Device is configured to send the correct number of digits. Click More Options beside the device.
4. Click Change the Setup of this Device. Follow the online instructions.
5. You will be prompted with the question "How do you select channels with your original controller?" Select the method you use.
6. Once the update has been made, click Quick Check and follow the online instructions.

The 'EZ Hex' file had errors in it. How do I fix this?
1. To ensure the applications open correctly, clear your computer's temporary internet files cache. To do this (using Internet Explorer only):

a) Open Internet Explorer.
b) Click Tools and click Internet Options.
c) Under Temporary Internet Files on General tab, click Delete Files.
d) Click OK to confirm the deletion of these files.
e) Click Update My Remote.
If you continue to experience the same problem, go to step 2:

2. In Internet Options click the Security tab and ensure the security level is set to "Medium".
3. Select the Privacy tab (if it exists in your version of Internet Explorer) and ensure the privacy level is set to "Medium".
4. Click OK.

How do I make backup copies of my Monster Controller's configuration?
To make backup copies of your configuration:

1. Ensure that the controller is not plugged in to the USB.
2. Click on Update My Controller from your home page.
3. Wait until the Update application pops up.
4. When the window pops up with the message No Monster Controller Detected, click the Exit button.
5. Then click the Troubleshoot button.
6. Select the radio button option that states The application did not launch automatically and click Next.
7. Right-click on the link that says Controller Data File (Update.EZHex) and then choose Save Target As....


How do I add commands when exiting an Activity?
To add commands when exiting an Activity, do the following:

From your home page select Customize next to the desired Activity.
From the next page select Run the setup wizard again.
Answer the questions in the activity wizard until you come to the "Confirmation" page. You will be given a summary of actions performed in this activity.
To add other components and/or commands to this activity select Yes, but I want to add more control of options and devices for this Activity. And click Next.
Click the Add Button next to any addition devices you wish to add to this activity. Click Save once you have added the necessary components.
Continue to answer the questions in the activity wizard until you come to the "Choosing Custom Actions" page. In the Leave Actions table select the appropriate device to add action for, and then click Add.

My computer or USB port will not recognize the controller. What do I do?
NOTE: Familiarity with Windows and Windows terminology is recommended to complete this process.

If the USB port does not detect the controller it could be due to a timing issue between the USB and the controller.

1. Ensure the controller is disconnected from the USB cable.
a) Unplug all USB devices.
b) Remove the battery from the controller and then reconnect it to the USB cable with no batteries (The controller will get power from the USB and should then be recognized by your computer).
c) Restart the computer.

If the USB port still doesn't detect the remote, go to step 2.

2. Put the battery in the controller and ensure it is connected to the USB port. Verify that your USB port is functioning properly by:
a) Clicking Start on your desktop.
b) Click Control Panel.
c) Click System.
d) Click the Hardware tab.
e) Click Device Manager.
f) Ensure "Human Interface Devices" appears in Device Manager and does not have an exclamation


How do I enable/disable the Welcome page?
To return to the Welcome page, logout of your Monster account by clicking Logout and then login again.

If you do not want the Welcome page to be displayed in the future, select Always go directly to my Home Page.

If you chose to go directly to your Home page, and want to restore the Welcome page, click My Profile and clear the Always go directly to my Home Page after logging in check box.


How do I change the function of the Activity buttons?
To change the activity that is started when an Activity button is pressed:

1. Click Customize Activity Buttons on your home page.
2. Choose the appropriate Activity from the drop-down lists.
3. Click Save.
4. Click Update My controller.

NOTE: Currently, it is not possible to change the functionality associated with More Activities.


What are CD and DVD Listings?
Some types of CD and DVD players can hold more than one disc at a time. In particular, there are some players (called Jukeboxes) that can hold hundreds of discs. Often these players allow the user to select a disc by entering the number of that disc (for example, disc 19 out of 300), or by using a menu driven system.
The Monster Controller can make these types of systems significantly easier to use because they allow you to enter information about each disc (for example, disc 19 is 'The Matrix'), and then select which disc you wish to view based on the name of the movie, rather than having to remember that it is disc 19.
In order for the Monster Controller to control your CD or DVD jukebox in this manner, you must be able to select discs numerically (e.g. select disc 19) as opposed to discrete buttons for each disc (e.g. disc1, disc2, etc).
Note: A charge may be applicable for activating and using this feature. Please contact our sales team for more information.


How do I set up CD or DVD Listings?
To enable this feature for your device, follow the instructions below. Your jukebox must support selecting discs numerically (e.g. "Select Disc 19" instead of discrete buttons for "Disc1", "Disc2", etc), or a menu driven system, for this feature to operate correctly.
Set-up Instructions:
From your home page, click on More Options next to your device.
From the next page select, Redo Initial Setup for this TV.
Follow the wizard until you reach the page with the heading, "How do you select a disc with your original remote control?".
Choose the option I use number keys to select a disc.
When you return to your home page, there will be a link next to your device that says Setup Media.
You should now be presented with a table that allows you to enter the Artist and Album names (for CD Jukebox) or Movie Titles (for DVD Jukebox) for your collection. Ensure that you enter each disc in the correct row corresponding to its Disc Number.

Can I set up multiple Monster Configurations (login IDs)?
The Monster Controller website will allow you to set up more than one configuration, but each configuration must have a different user name (login ID).

Two Controllers With Two Separate User Configurations

If you have two Monster Controller (one for the living room and a second different remote for the bedroom), and your email address is "abc@def.com", we recommend you create two separate user configurations:
abc@def.com_Living Room - will contain your living room configuration, and

abc@def.com_Bedroom - will contain your (second) bedroom configuration

Only one login ID is needed

You may update the controllers from the same login ID

Why can I access and customize only 4 of the 6 soft buttons?
The Monster Controller uses six buttons next to the LCD (three on either side) to provide quick access to additional infrared commands that may be useful during some activities.
In some instances, the menus available for an activity may have a title indicating the activity or menu you are currently in. A title reduces the number of available soft buttons from 6 to 4.
You can force the Monster to use all 6 buttons, but it will no longer display the activity name in the screen.
Login to your Monster home page.
Click My Controller Preferences.
Click Settings.
Change the "Menu Format" option to either 4 button or 6 button.
Click Save.


What are 'Repeats' when sending an infrared (IR) command?
Due to potential problems receiving the IR from the Monster controller, many devices require they see multiple "repeats" of data before they recognize a command as being valid. Can I automatically change inputs when I change to some television channels?
Some customers have requested the ability to automatically change inputs when surfing between standard and high definition (HD) channels. For example, channel 600 (SD) may be set to Video1 on the television, whereas channel 700
(HD) may require the television to be set to Video2.
Unfortunately, the remote does not currently support this type of customization, however it is under consideration for future development.
In the meantime, we recommend that customers in this situation use the following workaround:
Create two 'Watch Television' Activities - one for regular television, the other for HD television. In the set-up for each Activity, make sure you choose the appropriate settings (including video and audio input settings). Note that you can customize the channel list for each Activity to show only the relevant channels.


My Monster Controller is having problems learning IR commands from my original remote .
If your Monster Controller is having problems learning IR commands from your original remote, please do the following:
1. Verify you are pointing the original remote at bottom end of your Monster Controller, and are holding the controllers 2-4 inches apart.
2. Minimize the amount of light that could interfere with the learning process by covering the distance between the controllers. Block out sunlight, or turn off the lights.
3. Check that you have installed new batteries in the original remote you are trying to use to learn commands. If the batteries are low, the signal coming from your original remote may be too weak for the Monster Controller to detect.
4. Be sure to hold down the button on the original controller for at least 1-2 seconds, otherwise the signal may be too short for the Monster Controller to process.
5. If you still have trouble teaching the commands, start with the remotes 2 inches apart. Then try again with, slightly increasing the distance each ti


My Monster Controller has stopped working. What should I do?
If your controller was previously working, but has since stopped working:

How do I set up Music Server or Media Center Listings?
This feature is not supported for Digital Music Servers and Media Center PCs. Media listings for Digital Music Servers or Media Center PCs cannot be accessed directly using the Monster controller.

To access media listings, customize the buttons and/or LCD screen on the controller. For instructions on customizing buttons, read the following, Customizing Buttons.


How do I customize or change the function of the buttons on the controller?
To customize or change the function of a button:

1. Click Customize beside the activity on your home page.
2. Click Change the behavior of buttons.
3. Select a command from the drop-down list in the appropriate Device column.
4. Once you have completed your changes, click Done to save your changes.
5. Click Update My Controller.
Adding a Custom Button Label

To add a custom button label for an activity:

1. Under the Custom Button Label column, enter the label name you want to appear in the remote LCD.
2. Select a command from the drop-down list in the appropriate device column.
3. Click Save.


I use a firewall. How do I allow the Monster applications through?
The default behavior of some firewalls may prevent an application from running on your PC.


My internet service provider is Shaw Communications. What do I do?
An incompatibility exists between Shaw's proxy server and the member's web site. If Shaw is your Internet service provider, then it is necessary to bypass the Shaw proxy server in your Internet Explorer settings:

1. From the Tools menu in Internet Explorer click Internet Options.
2. Click the Connections tab.
3. Click LAN Settings.
The following window will appear:

Ensure that all three check boxes are cleared.

5. Click OK.
6. Then click OK on the Internet Options window.


I use Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall. How do I allow the applications through?
The Intrusion Detection feature of Norton Internet Security and Norton Personal Firewall recognizes some functions (e.g. the Monster applications) on the www.monstercable.com as suspicious traffic and blocks these functions.

We recommend disabling all firewall and anti-virus software. You can normally disable Norton by right-clicking the icon in the system tray and selecting disable auto protect.


I use Zone Alarm. How do I allow the applications through?
We recommend disabling all firewall and anti-virus software. You can normally disable Zone Alarm by right-clicking the icon in the system tray and selecting disable or close.

The Bose Lifestyle 18, 28 and 35 systems are capable of being controlled by both Infrared (IR) and Radio Frequency (RF). By default, they are set to accept RF. They can be fully controlled by the Monster controller when switched to receive IR commands.
Note: The Bose MiniSystem must have the firmware version of 01.03.02 or later in order to accept IR signals. To view the current firmware version:

Turn off the system.

Hold down the STORE button on the front of the device.

While holding STORE, press ENTER.

If the firmware version is before 01.03.02 an update CD is available from Bose.


What are the different speed settings for?
Power On Delay: When a device powers on, it takes a certain amount of time to "warm up" and resume normal operation. For most devices this happens very quickly, but for some devices such as televisions and receivers it can take up to 3 seconds (3000 ms). For some Plasma screens and other high-quality picture reproductions can take close to a minute (60000 ms).

Inter-key Delay: When a device receives an infrared command, the device is then "busy" processing the command. The amount of time required before the device responds to another command is known as the Inter-key Delay, and normally ranges from 0 to 300 milliseconds. Devices with long Inter-key Delays take longer to respond to multiple infrared commands (i.e. when changing television channels).

Input Delay: When a device switches inputs (i.e. goes from Video 1 to Video 2) the device is then "busy" processing the command. The amount of time required before the device responds to another input command is known as the


How do I add a Generic Activity?
To add a Generic Activity, do the following:

Click Add an Activity from your Monster home page.
Click No - manually add an activity to my setup.
Then click Utility.
Choose Generic Activity.
Click add beside the Devices you want to control (i.e. Computer). Once you have added all the appropriate Devices, click Next to continue setting up the Activity.
If you wish to rename the Activity, you can do so by clicking Customize from your Monster home page, next to the Generic Activity, and then select Rename Generic Activity.

Now that you have added a Generic Activity, you will need to customize the appropriate buttons or the LCD screen.

Update your Monster controller.


Another Application is currently communicating with the Monster Controller.
To close another Monster application(s) currently communicating with the controller:

1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete .
2. In the Task Manager dialog box, click the Applications tab.
3. Select any task that starts with "EasyZapper".
4. Click End Task.
5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 for other EasyZapper programs running.
6. Click Update My Controller.
NOTE: If other Monster applications are still communicating with the remote, please reboot your computer. This will close all Monster applications.

Bose Lifestyle® 20, 25, 30, 40, and 50 MiniSystems
The Bose Lifestyle 20, 25, 30, 40, and 50 systems are controlled by Radio Frequency (RF or UHF) and therefore cannot be controlled by the current range of Monster controller. To resolve this issue, use the Bose RF Controller (available at many electronics stores), which will take IR commands transmitted by your Monster controller, translate them into RF commands, and will then send them to your system using your Monster controller.

To set up the C-1024 converter to work with the Monster controller:
Ensure the toggle switch on the back of the C-1024 converter is in the up position.
If the Monster controller still does not control your Bose Lifestyle system, unplug and re-plug every cable and wire on the Bose system to ensure everything is securely connected.


Samsung HLN/HLM Series Plasmas
In the Adjust Inputs wizard for your Samsung, only choose the active inputs for your HLN or HLM series plasma by selecting the appropriate options under "In Use?"

Samsung HLN and HLM series plasmas have the ability to skip over inputs not connected to a device. You can access active inputs by pressing the button (on your original remote) that changes inputs. Inactive inputs are automatically skipped over. The Monster controller will automatically cycle through the inputs that have been included


Samsung TXN/TXM Series Plasmas
Each time you update your Monster controller, you will have to repeat the following steps. The Monster controller is able to track the inputs your devices are on in each activity. When you change activities, or power-off and back on, it will keep the devices set to the correct input. The only time it may be "out of sync" is when you first use the system after an update and choose an activity

By using the Help button on the controller, the Monster controller will be synchronized with the television. This will allow the Monster to correctly switch inputs automatically when you choose an activity

To synchronize your Monster controller with your system after updating the remote:

1. Choose an activity and then press Help on the controller.
2. Carefully answer the questions on the LCD. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for each activity.


How do I add a Second Zone/Multi-zone for my Stereo Receiver?
To add a Second Zone/Multi-zone for your stereo receiver:

1.Click Add a Device on your home page.
2. Select Amplifier from the Device Category column and follow the online instructions.
3. Click Update My Remote. You can now access the second zone receiver through Device mode.
4. On the Remote press Device and select Stereo Receiver 2 from the list. If Stereo Receiver 2 does not appear in the first page of the LCD press Next to find it. Your remote will now only control the second zone functions for the receiver.

To customize the buttons for your second zone:

1. Click More Options next to the Second Zone Receiver on your home page.
2. Click Customize the Device, Sound, and Picture Commands for this Stereo Receiver.
3. Click Done when you are finished.
4. Click Update My Remote.


My device won't power on or some of the commands for my device don't work when I select an Activity?
There are two likely causes for a Device not working properly. It is either set to a different code setting in our database, or changing delay settings will fix the timing of the commands.

1. While in front of your entertainment system, please choose an Activity that includes the Device that is not working properly. If the Device does not power on, please use the "Help" button and scroll through the questions. When you get to the question "Is the device On?" choose "No" and see if it powers on your Device. If it does power on, this tells us that it is a timing issue, and not an incorrect IR command. To fix the timing of the commands to this Device, please choose 'More Options' beside the Device on your home page, then click 'Adjust the Delays'. Increase the "Inter-Device Delay" for the Device and click "Next". Update the Remote.
2. If it does not power on the Device, please press ?Device? on the remote. Choose the Device from the LCD screen. Use the ?Next? button to scroll


Why does the TV go to the wrong input when I select an Activity?
The remote is able to track what inputs your Devices are on in each Activity, so that when you change Activities, or power off and back on, it will keep the devices set to the correct input.

The only time it may be "out of sync" is when you first use the system after an update and choose an activity.

If the input on a Device is out of sync, press Help and answer the questions, to set the input correctly.
If the input is still not correctly set, follow the appropriate tests to determine the problem and solution:

A) My original remote cycles through the inputs with one button
1. Ensure the correct inputs are displayed, and are in the correct order on the Inputs page. This is the order they will be cycled through by the remote.

2. Using the device's original remote, when you turn off the device while it's on a certain input, such as Input 1, and then turn it back on, does the device stay on its previous input, or does it revert to a certain input? <

The words 'Safe Mode' appear on the remote. What do I do?
If the words "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode Requested" appear on the remote, complete the following steps:

1. Ensure the Remote is in Safe Mode Requested by taking out the battery, and disconnecting the remote from the USB cable.
2. Hold down the Off button and plug the remote into the USB.
3. Continue holding down the Off button for another 10 seconds. The remote should then display the words "Safe Mode Requested".
4. With the unit in Safe Mode Requested, re-install the firmware by clicking Support on your home page.
5. Click Firmware in the Downloads section and follow the online instructions to upgrade the firmware.
6. Once the firmware upgrade is complete, click Update My Remote.
7. Insert the battery into the remote.

Select the option either one above or one below the current setting and then click Save.

Bang & Olufsen (B&O)
Bang & Olufsen equipment uses a high frequency IR (infrared) protocol that can only be controlled by the 800 and 500 series Monster controllers. The 600 and 700 series Monster controllers are not able to control Bang & Olufsen equipment at this time.


Pace Cable Boxes (mainly used in the UK)
Pace cable boxes use an infrared protocol called IRDa. Only the 800 series of Monster controllers can send these infrared commands.
All other controller models can control Pace cable boxes using a Red-Eye translator. Visit redremote.co.uk for instructions.


Binary File was the Wrong Size. (Mac Only)
The update application checks the binary size of an update file is correct. If the check fails, you will get an error message, "The binary file was the wrong size".

1. On your web browser, click Tools, and click Internet Options.
2. Click Delete Files to delete your Temporary Internet Files.
3. If this does not help, save the file to your Desktop and double-click to open it.
NOTE: If you have Internet security software (e.g. firewall, anti-virus, or Norton Internet Security) installed it may prevent the download of files containing executable data. In this case it is necessary to adjust this software to trust the file the web site is sending.
4. If you are still receiving the error, lower your TV listings to None:
a) Click Setup Tv Content beside each television-based Activity. Appropriate Activities include (but are not limited to) Watch Television, Watch PVR, and TiVo Television.
b) Under Choose the number of days worth of TV Listings loaded on each Updat


My television channel provider is not listed. What do I do?
The list of television channel providers is based on your ZIP or Postal Code, City and State. This information is contained in your Profile. To correct your Profile, choose the "My Profile" link from your Home Page and run the Activity setup again.


I don't know what Device Type to select for one of my devices. What do I choose?
Read the description for each device type. Choose the one that you think best matches your device. Don't worry, you will always be able to change your selection later.
Note that you can click on the "Show More Device Types" button to expand the list of device types.


The manufacturer of one of my devices is not listed. What do I do?
In the list of manufacturers for that device type, choose "-Not Listed-". Make sure you select the manufacturer of all of your other devices. Then click Next and you will be able to enter the missing manufacturer name.


How do I find the manufacturer of my device?
Many manufacturers print their name on the front faceplate of the device, or on a sticker on the back of the device. Another good place to look is on the user manual for your device.


Which type of Activity setup is right for me, Basic or Custom? _ OBSOLETE
Basic
The Basic setup is the best choice for standard livingroom entertainment systems, unless you use your VCR as an A/V passthrough in the Activity (see below).
Custom
If you have a more elaborate entertainment system setup, then you should choose the Custom option. Here are situations where you should choose the Custom option:
You use your VCR to pass the A/V signal from one device to another in the Activity (A/V passthrough).

Example 1: To watch satellite TV, you need to turn your VCR on (because you have the signal from your satellite box go to your VCR and then to your television).

Example 2: To play a video game you need to turn your VCR on (because you have the signal from your game console go to your VCR and then to your television).

You use your amplifier as a pre-processor in this Activity.

You use your sound processor in this Activity.

You use a light controller in this Activity.

You use an A/V switch in this A


How do I Watch Television from Cable and Satellite?
If you Watch Television channels using more than one device or service provider, then you can add more than one Watch Television Activity to your configuration.
For example, you might create a "Watch Satellite" Activity and a "Watch Cable" Activity.
The "Watch Satellite" Activity will use the Satellite to change channels, and the "Watch Cable" Activity will use your Television to change channels.


Why am I getting an error?
The setup wizard encountered a problem while configuring this activity. There are a number of possible causes for this:
You may have deleted a device recently. For example, if you have deleted your CD player, the 'Listen to CDs' activity will not work correctly.
You may have incorrectly setup a device (look for "Needs Setup" on your Home Page). For example, if the inputs are not specified correctly for your television then the 'Watch a DVD' activity will give you this error.


What does the connectivity check do?
The connectivity check will ensure that the USB drivers and software are installed and working correctly. It will also ensure that the remote is communicating with the website before you move on to configuring the Remote.


Why is a file downloaded to my computer? (Mac Only)
The website will send a small file to your computer. This file contains information to send to the remote with one of the software applications installed on your computer. Once the file download has completed, the software application that communicates with the remote should launch automatically to perform the communication.


" I get an error "The specified path does not exist. Check the path then try again."
The update file is stored temporarily on your hard drive. Your browser chooses a temporary path location. Sometimes the hard drive location is full. To fix this problem, try the following:

Open a new browser window.

On the menu bar of your browser, click on Tools, then Internet Options.

Click on the "Delete Files..." button in the Temporary Internet Files section under General.

Try the download again.


I follow the instructions, but I get a dialog box which says: "Windows cannot open this file..". What now?
You may have seen a window like this, when you attempted to convert your test drive account:
You need to install the software from the CD provided with your remote. After you install this software, plug the remote into your computer with the USB cable provided. Then return to the Test Drive window and click "Convert". If your computer needs to be rebooted during the software installation, login using your Test drive login ID, and then click "Convert".


How do I know when I have finished using the Controller Update Application?
When you enter this page, a window should pop up, which looks like this:
If all goes well, the website will communicate with the controller, that window should disappear, and you should be automatically sent to the next page, which, if successful, will indicate that the Connectivity is confirmed. It should look something like this:
If for some reason, the first window (grey) opens, but does not close, you should take note of the information on that page, and click on the "Troubleshoot" button at the bottom of the page. The image below is an example of such a problem:
If the first window opens, and closes, and everything seems to have worked, but you are not directed automatically to the page which indicates that Connectivity is confirmed, you should click on the "Done" button.


What does the Troubleshoot button do? - Obsolete
The troubleshoot button launches a connectivity troubleshooting wizard, which will help you to establish connectivity between the Monster controller website, and your remote control. Options within this wizard will allow you to:
Install the Monster client software, if you have not already done so. (The Monster client software allows your computer to communicate with the Monster Controller.)

Help you to 'wake up' the Monster client software if it is not responding

Troubleshoot and fix problems with the Monster client software recognizing or communicating with your remote.

Troubleshoot and fix problems with the Monster client software communicating with the Monster controller web site.


What happens if I skip the connectivity check?
If you skip the connectivity check, and connectivity between your remote control and the web site has not been established, you will not be able to set up your remote control. We recommend that you attempt to troubleshoot the problem with our troubleshooting wizard. If the wizards do not help you to resolve your problem, please contact our customer support team; our specialists will be happy to help you to set up your remote control.


How do I know which error has occured?
When the client application (the pop up window with the grey background) encounters an error, it will remain open, and a message will be displayed in a box in the centre of the window. Example:
In the example, the heading of the error is "No Remote Detected." Informative text is displayed in the text, recommending a course of action. You should always try this first. If the recommended course of action does not succeed, you whould use the troubleshooter, which will suggest more options.


How do I know if I haven't installed the Monster Controller client application?
If you followed the Quick Start, and installed software from the CD provided with your Monster controller successfully, then you have installed the Monster client application. If the Monster client application is installed and running, it should launch automatically when you do a connectivity check.
If the client application is not installed, you will see a dialog like this, when the Monster web site attempts to connect to your Monster controller:
In this case, you should select the option to install the Monster client software.


How do I know if the Monster client application showed me an error?
The Monster client application pops up in a separate window, and has a grey background. it should look something like this:
If all goes well, this button should close by itself, during a connectivity check, after it has completed.
If the window is showing an error, it will remain open, and there will be a message providing additional information, which you should note for troubleshooting. Here is an example of an error with the client application:


What do you mean by the
When we say "Language", we are really talking about the Infrared Language that your existing remote control uses to control the device.
There are many different Infrared Languages. The remote needs to know which of these languages is used to control your device.


I don't know which speed setting to modify. What do I choose?
Power On Delay. When a device receives a 'PowerOn' command, it takes a certain amount of time to 'warm up' the device and resume normal operation. For most devices this happens very quickly, but for some devices such as televisions and receivers it can take up to 3000 milliseconds (three seconds).
Inter-key Delay. When a device receives an infrared command the device will become 'busy' processing the command. The amount of time required before the device will respond to another command is known as the inter-key delay, and normally ranges from zero to 300 milliseconds. Devices with long inter-key delays take longer to respond to multiple infrared commands (for example, when changing television channels).
Input Delay. When a device switches inputs (e.g. goes from Video 1 to Video 2) the device will become 'busy' processing the command. The amount of time required before the device will respond to another switch input command is known as the Input delay, and normally ranges from 5


What format should I type in my model number? All upper case, with spaces or with dashes?
It is best to enter the model number exactly how it is written on your device or on the user manual for your device. Don't worry if you're not sure. Just type it in as you see it and we will search for the best match. Most manufacturers use UPPERCASE for their model numbers. Here are some examples of model numbers:

It is very important that you find the model number because this will allow us to find a good match. However, if you cannot find a model number look for a "family", "line" or "series" designation on your device. This will allow us to show you a list of AV components with that designation.


What must I do after I have Updated my remote?
The most important thing you should do after your remote has been updated is synchronize it with your entertainment system. Synchronizing your remote with your system tells the remote what devices are on and off, and what their inputs are set to.

Note: You will only have to do this the first time you try an Activity. From then on your remote will remember these settings and will control all the devices automatically for you.

To synchronize your remote:

Turn off all your entertainment devices manually or using their remote controls.

On your remote choose an Activity you would like to try.

If your remote did not seem to turn on the correct devices for the activity, or if an input or setting is not correct (for example, you do not see a picture on your TV or hear sound) press Help on your remote.

Try to determine the cause of the problem. If you think you know the cause of the problem, click on the appropriate link next to that device. The controller is missing an infrared command to control one of my devices?
Click on More Options for that device and Learn the infrared command from your original remote.


How do I make the buttons on the controller do what I want them to do?
Because the behavior of each button changes depending on the Activity you are in (e.g. Watch a DVD), you need to pick the Activity and then the device before specifying which button you want to customize. Click Customize next to the Activity you want to change the behavior of a button in.


What is the Characterization Activity? Can I remove it?
The Characterization Activity is used to help you setup your controller for a device that is not yet in our database and that you do not have the original controller for. In this case, the members's website will find all of the possible infrared languages for your device and put them into the Characterization Activity. The next time that you update the controller, you will be able to test each of these languages to see if any one of them controls your device.

Once all of your devices are setup and being controlled by the remote, you will no longer need this Activity and it should be automatically removed from your configuration. If it is not removed automatically then you can remove it by returning to your home page, clicking on the 'Remove an Activity' and then select the "Characterization" Activity from the list.


Why is it so important to know about my Devices?
Each of your AV components has a remote control and a unique set of characteristics. For the remote to control your components as a single entertainment system, it needs to know both the remote control commands used and the characteristics of each device.

As an example of a characteristic, a device such as a Stereo Receiver can have many different inputs (CD, DVD, Tape, Tuner etc). Each input allows the Stereo Receiver to play sound from a different source. The device's remote control sends the command to change between those inputs when you press the button called "Input".

Once the remote knows about each component's characteristics and the commands used to control those devices, the remote can be configured to control groups of components together to create Activities.


I converted my test drive account, but some of my devices are notsetup properly, or don't function as I'd like them to. What now?
During the test drive, users are sometimes directed to choose a similar remote, if an exact model number match is not found. In contrast, new users that have not run the test drive typically have the opportunity to use the controller's intelligent learning system to make an informed choice of similar devices.
After converting your test drive account, we recommend that you choose "More Options" from the "What do you want to do next?" page. This will bring you to your home page. Remove the device that is not functioning properly, and then "Add" the device again from the left panel (Devices). This will allow you to configure your device using the standard Device Wizard, and enable you to make use of the controller's intelligent learning system.


What are Inputs?
Home electronic devices such as televisions, VCRs and stereo receivers, require an audio and/or video "signal" to perform their intended purpose (playing audio or video). This "signal" can come from a cable company, an antenna, a satellite, a VCR, a DVD player, etc. Typically, the signal is sent via a cable, or multiple cables that plug into connectors on your device. The connector that the cable plugs into is called an "input".
There are different types of inputs, and sometimes a single device can have more than 1 type of input. Examples of different inputs include RCA inputs, co-axial inputs and optical inputs. Here are what these inputs look like:


How do I know what inputs my device has?
What we call "Inputs" are also known as "Sources" or "Functions" of a device. Your device will have one or more inputs (e.g. Antenna, Video 1, Video 2, DVD/LD, etc). Each input allows your device to process sound and/or video and from a different device. To find the names of the inputs for your device please try one or all of these suggestions:

Using the Input, Source or Function button(s) on your device's original remote, switch though all of the inputs and note the name of the input that is shown on the device's screen or display.

Review the User Manual for your device which should list all of the available inputs.

Look at the back of the device and make a note of the names and number of the inputs.


I am having problems logging in. What should I do?
The login id or password may be incorrect.
Close this window then click on the "I can't log in" link on the login screen.

Once you have determined the correct login id and password, you can avoid having to type in your login id each time by clicking the "Remember my Login ID for next time" checkbox on the login screen.


What steps do I need to take if I am replacing my Monster Controller with a different model number?
If you have upgraded your existing controller
The website will automatically convert your existing Configuration to the correct format for your new controller. To ensure that the conversion is complete, please follow the instructions below:
Install the latest Software onto your computer by following the instructions in your Quick Start User Guide.

After installing the software, a web browser will open automatically and direct you to the Account Information page.

Click on the link 'I already have an account!'. You will be directed to the Monster User login page.

Login to your account as normal.

Click on the 'Connectivity' link from your home page and then follow the instructions to download and run a connectivity check.

Update the controller as normal.


I have purchased a second controller and I want to use both. What do I do now?
You will need a separate account for each of your controllers.
To create a new account, simply follow the instructions in the box as a New User. To clone your account, please contact Customer Service. This will save you from having to set up your AV components and set up Activities again.
Login to your account as normal.

Click on the 'Connectivity' link from your home page and then follow the instructions to download and run a connectivity check.

Update the controller as normal.


Why do I need to enter my address? What is done with this information?
Your address is used by the website to determine which TV listings are appropriate for your area.

We are grateful if you let us know where you heard about us and who you purchased the controller from so that we can determine how effective our advertising and training programs are.


The Login ID that I want to use is already in use. What do I do?
Every customer gets their own, unique login ID. This is so that you can log in any time you want, and the web site knows who you are, and what your controller settings are. If the login ID you would like to use is already used by another customer, simply choose a different login ID. The best login ID to use is your email address because then you know no other customer will already have it, and it is easy for you to remember.


Why should I join the Member Mailing List? Will I receive a lot of spam emails?
We value your privacy and will only send you information that relates to the remote.

From time to time we will send you updates on features and enhancements we have added to the Member web site or controller firmware, and keep you informed of any bug fixes. This will allow you to know when to connect the controller again to try them out. We suggest that you join the Member Mailing List and that if you find that the information we send you is not useful, you can easily change your Member Profile from your Member Home page (once your remote is set up).

As a valued Member, we may also send you special offers from time to time so that you, your friends, or family can purchase a controller at a significant discount. Again, it is easy to remove your email from the Member Mailing List if you find that these special offers are not helpful.


How does the controller setup work? What should I do next?
To set up a controller, follow the setup questions one page at a time. Choose the correct answer to a question, or chose an option and click Next. The setup should take less than an hour, but for some customers with complex entertainment systems and who wish to do customization, the setup could take longer.

The setup process is as follows:
Prepare for setup by installing communication software on your computer.

(AVL 300) Specify any lighting or Z-wire wireless devices you with to control with your Monster Controller.

Specify the model numbers of the components you wish to control as a system with the Monster Controller.

Answer Activity questions (such as "when you watch a DVD, do you listen to the sound from your TV's speakers or your stereo's speakers?").

Why do I need to change between inputs?
Different signals are connected to different inputs on your device. Usually a device can only select one input at a time, so it is necessary to tell your device which input to select. For example, your television may be setup to show signals from your cable company, your VCR and your DVD player. To show the signal from your DVD player (ie. to watch a DVD), you must select the input on your television that your DVD player is connected to. So if your DVD player is connected to an input called "Video 2", then you have to select the "Video 2" input on your television to watch the DVD.


What is a Similar Device?
A Similar Device has the same Infrared Language as your device, and a similar set of Features.
Examples of Device Features are:
How you turn the power on and off (one button, or two buttons).

How you change channels (two digits, or three digits, or digits and enter).

How many inputs the device has. (e.g. how many other devices can be connected to it)


What happens if I click Order Now?
When you click Order Now, you will be directed to our online store, where you can purchase any model of Monster Controller. You will be able to return at any time to the test drive page by clicking the Member Login link and using your test drive login ID and password.


How do I try a different model controller with the Monster Test Drive?
The Monster Controller test drive is concerned with setting up devices and one-touch access to Activities. Aside from the graphics used, the test drive is the same for all models of Monster Controller. At Intrigue Technologies, we believe that all universal remotes should be able to control all brands. Why must I add AV components to my configuration?
In order to control your entertainment system, we need to know the make and model of the AV components you wish to control. From this information, and your Activity preferences, we can figure out how to set up the controller to control them together.


Will I be able to control my AV component(s) with the controller?
The controller database is large and constantly growing, however there are some AV components which we do not yet know about.
Don't worry, we can still control these devices. To do this, we will need to collect a little more information from you.


What happens when I Update the controller?
The Update process takes all of the information that you have provided to the website and builds it into a single file that can then be downloaded into the controller.
Once this information is loaded into the controller, then you are ready to control your entertainment system.
The Update process consists of three steps.
The Update file is created.

The Update file is downloaded to your computer.

The controller is updated with the information contained in the Update file.


How do I install the Windows 98SE drivers?
NOTE:Familiarity with Windows and Windows terminology is recommended to complete this installation process.

Windows does not accept our drivers if the Windows Drivers exist in the system. This has become a problem since the latest Win 98 SE updates.

Complete the following procedure to allow the Controller to install its own drivers:

NOTE: This process requires the Windows 98 SE CD. Please do not attempt this process unless you have access to the Windows 98 SE CD.

1. Ensure the controller is plugged into your computer.

2. Backup these files:

How do I set my Niles repeater to operate correctly with the controller?
For the Niles repeater to operate correctly with the controller, ensure the Niles repeater is switched to the Low setting. This device has a Low and High setting. When it is set to High, the Niles repeater has difficulty receiving commands from the controller. Setting it to Low allows proper communication. Refer to the diagram below to make the changes.


How can I add my X10 light controller?
To add your X10 device follow the steps below:

1. Login to your home page.
2. Click Add a Device.
3. Select Home Automation and click Next.
4. Select Light Controller and click Next.
5. Select the manufacturer and enter the model number.

The best way to control your X10 device is by using the Device button (Device Mode) on the controller. You can modify the buttons in Device Mode by clicking More Options next to the device on your home page. Then click Customize the Device, Sound, and Picture commands for this Device.
Note: Many X10 devices are RF (radio frequency) controlled. The controller can send IR (infrared) signals only. You can purchase an IR to RF module from X10 if your device is RF. Refer to your X10 documentation to verify whether your X10 controller is capable of receiving IR.


Could not get time from web server.
This problem occurs when an application on your computer is blocking the controller from contacting our web server. To resolve this issue ensure any pop-up blockers, anti-virus, or firewall is allowing the Monster applications through.

We recommend that you disable these applications while configuring the controller.


To check the Monster software:
1. Ensure you have the software installed on your computer. If you have not yet installed the software, you can download and install from the support page.
2. Disconnect the controller from your computer.
3. Click the icon in the system tray to start the Monster Monitoring application.
4. You will be prompted to plug in the controller. Plug in your controller.
5. If the controller is recognized, the following message will be displayed: ?The controller is currently connected to your computer?. If you are asked to install the drivers, you can install them now


To check the Monster software (part 2):

1. Ensure you have the software installed on your computer. If you have not yet installed the software, you can download the software from the support page.

2. While the Monster controller is still connected to the computer, remove one of the batteries from the battery compartment of the controller. Wait five seconds, and then replace the battery.

Ensure you have the software installed on your computer. If you have not yet installed the software, you can download it from the support page. Disconnect your Monster controller from your computer. Restart your computer and reconnect the Monster controller.


To ensure the controller is communicating with your computer running Windows 2000 and XP:
Ensure you have the software installed on your computer. If you have not yet installed the software, you can download it from the support page. Open the Device Manager:
a. Click the Start menu.
b. Click Settings and then click Control Panel.
Click System to view the system proprieties. Click the Hardware tab and click Device Manager. When the controller is detected, it will be listed under Human Interface Devices.

End any processes named: EasyZapperManager.exe, EasyZapperUpload.exe, EasyZapperUgrade.exe, and EasyZapperDeviceTutor.exe. Do not end EasyZapperMonitor.exe.
If you continue to get a message that the controller application is already in use, restart your computer.


To install USB drivers for Windows:
The controller does not require any device drivers other than those that were installed with your operating system.

If you are ever prompted to install drivers, follow these steps:
When you are prompted for a driver, select Search for a suitable driver and click Next.
When you are prompted for the locations to search, clear all option buttons and click Next. The wizard will then find an existing driver.
Click Next to continue and then click Finish the completed the steps in this wizard.
Click Next to exit this wizard.


To check your Windows 98SE or ME USB Connectivity:
To ensure your Monster Controller is communicating with your computer running Windows 98SE or ME:
Ensure you have the Monster software installed on your computer. If you have not yet installed the software, you can install it now. Ensure your Monster Controller is disconnected from your computer.
Open Device Manager:
a. Click the Start menu.
b. Click Settings and then click Control Panel.
c. Click System to view the system proprieties.
d. Click the Device Manager tab. If there is an error communicating with the Monster controller, then the Device Manager will display an icon (either USB Device or USB Human Interface Device) with a yellow question mark on it. If you can see this icon, ensure it disappears when you unplug the Controller, and appears when you re-plug it. If the Monster controller has this icon, try removing the controller's battery. If this does not fix the problem you may need to reinstall the latest USB drivers.


To check your Windows 2000 or XP USB Connectivity:
To ensure your Monster Controller is communicating with your computer running Windows 2000 and XP:
Ensure you have the Monster software installed on your computer. If you have not yet installed the software, you can install it now.
Ensure your Monster controller is disconnected from your computer.
Open the Device Manager:
a. Click the Start menu.
b. Click Settings and then click Control Panel.
c. Click System to view the system proprieties.
d. Click the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
If there is an error communicating with the Monster controller, then the Device Manager will display an icon (either USB Device or USB Human Interface Device) with a yellow question mark on it. DishNetwork PVRs
The Dish Network PVR is by default set to accept UHF/RF (radio frequency) signals only. The Monster Controller is capable of sending only IR (infrared) signals.

The Monster Controller will still be able to control your PVR, but you will first need to set the PVR Language to accept the language the Monster Controller is using.

You must test the Monster Controller with each address on your device, until you find an address that controls your device.
Note: You should have updated your remote for the first time before trying these steps.

On the Monster controller:
Press the Device button and select the Dish Network Cable box from the LCD screen. If you do not see the device on the first page press the Next button.
Now press Channel Up on the Monster controller. If channel up works, you are done. If not, go to the next step.Note: The Dish 811 and 921 need to have the antenna disconnected before they will accept IR signals.

Playstation 2 (Power)
Your Sony Playstation 2 (PS2) has a built in IR sensor so the Monster Controller can control it, even if you do not have the original controller. You need to add it as a Game Console.

Note: If you purchased PS2 prior to December 2003 then the Monster Controller will not be able to turn it on or off, but it will still be able to control the other functions.


Kenwood VR-410 Stereo Receiver
The Monster Controller is unable to control this device. The reason for this is the Kenwood VR-410 is UHF/RF (radio frequency) controlled only, and the Monster Controller is only capable of sending IR (infrared) signals.
The Kenwood VR-410's original remote is capable of sending both IR and RF signals, but the IR is used to control other IR capable devices.


Sony Camcorder
In order for any controller to be able to control the Sony Camcorder CCD-TRV12E or CCD-TRV12 you must set the commander switch on the camcorder to ON.

If you have trouble finding this feature on your camcorder refer to page 36 of your manual.


DishNetwork model 4xxx and older 5000 Receivers
These receivers do not have IR (infrared) capability. The Monster Controller cannot control these receivers.

Model 4700 and 4900: These receivers have IR capability. The Monster Controller will be able to control these without any extra modifications or programming to the receivers.
Model 5000: You can tell if your model 5000 receiver can accept IR components based on the serial number of the receiver. BTFxxxxx and earlier receivers are UHF/RF (radio frequency) only. BTGxxxxx may or may not have an IR component. BTHxxxxx and later receivers have IR capability, giving it both IR and UHF/RF capability by default.


Mitsubishi Television - WS Series Mitsubishi Television
To ensure the Monster controller controls your devices properly, you must disable Net Command.

To disable Net Command you must delete all devices associated with it. Open the Mitsubishi Television's setup menu. Select Delete at the setup menu. Select Entire Configuration and then select Next. Follow the onscreen instructions to delete the entire configuration. To finalize your selections and complete the NetCommand setup, select Finish from the finish screen.


To get your controller to work correctly again:
1. Replace the battery in the controller.

Note:You may not receive a low battery warning on the controller because the batteries still have enough power to operate the controller in other cases.


'Runtime Error 1' '
A program that is interfering with the controller application can cause this error. It may be a spyware application that is interfering with the controller application. To resolve this issue please do following.
1. Reboot your computer. Try updating your Monster Controller. If the error appears again try step 2.

2. Download the latest Monster Controller software from the web site. Do this by clicking the Support link in the upper right corner of your Monster member homepage, then click Software in the Downloads section. Choose the appropriate operating system. Once the software is downloaded and installed, try updating your Monster remote. If you continue to experience Runtime Error 1, do step 3.

3. Run a spy ware removal program such as Ad-Aware or SpyBot. Try Updating your Monster remote.


How can I have the Help button ask about devices that are not part of the current activity?
By default the Help button on the controller will only ask you about AV components that are part of the current activity. It is possible to have the Help button ask about all of your devices. Follow the steps below to enable the feature.

1. Login to your home page. This is the page where you can view all of your AV components and activities.
2. Click My Controller Options.
3. Click Settings.
4. Using the On-Screen Help system options select Full.
5. Click Save.
6. Update your controller.

When you use the Help button, the controller will first ask about the AV components currently being used, then it will ask if your other components are turned off.


How do I add my camcorder to my list of devices?
At this time we do not have a camcorder device type, but you can still add it as a VCR since a camcorder has the same basic functions.

1. Login to your home page. This is the page where you can view all of your devices and activities.
2. Click Add a device.
3. Select Video Recorder.
4. Select VCR.
5. Follow the online instructions.

Now setup a Play a Videotape activity to control it.


How do I fix a compiler error?
There are many different problems that may cause a compiler error. To correct a compiler error, do the following:

1. From your Monster home page, click Customize beside an Activity.
2. Click Run the setup wizard again.
3. Once complete, you will be returned to your Monster home page. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for each Activity.
4. Click Update My Controller.

How do I update my controller using Windows XP Service Pack 2?
It is important you ensure the member's web site can communicate with the controller once you have updated your PC with Windows XP Service Pack 2 (WinXP SP2).

When you click Update My Controller, a message will appear indicating the web site has been blocked from downloading files to your computer.

To allow the download from the member's web site:

1. Click the message "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for options...".

2. Click Download file.

3. Click Open.


Mac operating systems:
The Monster Controller is not supported on Mac Classic operating systems (System 9 or earlier).
The controller is only supported on the Mac OSX operating system (version 10.2 or higher).

In some cases, there can be conflicts with the Java installation when Mac OSX v10.2 (Jaguar) is upgraded to Mac OSX v10.3 (Panther).


There are three options to fix a failed installation on the Mac OS 10.3 (Panther):
1. Disconnect your Mac from the Internet before starting the Monster Controller Software installation.

Or

2. a) Under System Preferences choose .Mac.
b) Then choose .iDisk.
c) Disable your iDisk auto-synchronization.
d) Start the Monster Controller software installation.

Or

3. On Panther (Mac OS 10.3) you can set your iDisk to automatically synchronize so that iDisk is permanently placed on the desktop. If the iDisk is active, then software installers sometimes scan the available drives before proceeding with the installation. The Monster Controller installer will stall just before you are prompted to choose your installation disk. The Monster Controller software installer will take approximately 5 minutes to install the software.

Note: The stalling problem can occur with any installer that gives multiple disk options.


The Update application froze on Mac OSX 10.3 (Panther).
We believe this issue is caused by an error in this latest version of Mac OS X. More specifically, this is caused by a problem with the Java virtual machine. The following links will give you more information on this issue and some suggestions on how to resolve the problem:

The Monster Client Software applications can be installed from the CD that came with your controller.
The latest Monster Controller Client Software application version is 3.3. To install from your CD, simply insert the CD in your CD or DVD drive. If the installation application does not start automatically, you may need to start it by using Windows Explorer or the Macintosh Finder.


To resolve error message when upgrading firmware:
The error message: "This upgrade is not intended for your Monster Controller" means the downloaded firmware file is not compatible with your controller.
In most cases, the solution to this problem is to perform a Connectivity Check, and then try the upgrade again.


To perform the upgrade:
1. When the warning message: "This upgrade may not be intended for your Monster Controller" is displayed, click OK to perform the upgrade.

Note: This warning message does not normally indicate an error. Often it means the version of firmware currently on your controller is the same as the version you are attempting to upgrade to.


To ensure software applications open, clear your computer's temporary Internet files cache (assuming you are using Internet Explorer):

Select Internet Options from the Tools menu in Internet Explorer. Click the General tab. Under Temporary Internet Files click Delete Files. Click OK to confirm deletion of these files. Update your Monster Controller.
If you continue to experience the same problem, try the next steps:
In Internet Options click the Security tab and ensure the security level is set to Medium. Click the Privacy tab (if it exists in your version of Internet Explorer) and ensure the privacy level is set to Medium.


To set access rules for the Client Software applications in your Norton Internet Security (NIS) program.
Open the Norton Internet Security program. Click the Assistant tab and click Control Application. Click Control Application. Click Click here to scan for Internet applications. In the following window, click Next to start the application scan (this may take some time depending on how many programs you have that access the Internet). Once complete click Stop or Next and you will be taken to the next window. Click Add. Type the following in the File Name box: EasyZapperUpdate.exe Click Open. Click Permit this application access to the internet, then OK. Choose an application category (General or File Transfer) and then click OK. In the next window, you will see the executable program added to the NIS list of allowed programs. Repeat steps 7 to 12 for EasyZapperUpgrade.exe and EasyZapperDeviceTutor.exe. Close the NIS program. You should not have problems accessing the site with the NIS program enabled. Login to your account and update your controller.


To set access rules for the Client Software applications in the Web Bugs option in the Zone Alarm program.
Ordinarily, the Zone Alarm program will automatically create rules for any application that accesses the Internet the first time you use the program. In the case of the Controller Client Software applications, it does not do this. It simply denies access to the site.
In Zone Alarm Pro, select Privacy. Select Mobile Code Control. Select Custom. Click the Cookies tab. Clear the checkbox Disable Web Bugs.


To disable other firewall, pop-up, or spam-blocker programs so your Client Software application can
Disable any anti-virus or pop-up blocker program or refer to your program's user manual for instructions on how to allow applications through.

If your computer is connected to the Internet via a router, refer to your router's user manual for instructions on how to allow applications through.


If the USB port does not detect the controller, check the USB connection:
Ensure the Monster Controller is disconnected from the USB cable. Unplug all USB devices. Remove the batteries from the controller, wait 10 seconds and then connect it to the USB cable. (The controller will get power from the USB and should then be recognized by your computer).

a. Right-click on the device with the exclamation mark, and click Uninstall.
b. Click Scan for Hardware Changes.
c. The Device Manager window should now update.

If the USB port does not detect the controller it could be due to a faulty USB port, or even a conflict with other software that is installed on your computer.
Connect the controller to a different USB port on your computer. Connect the controller to a different computer via USB.


How do I reset (restore) the controller to factory default?
You cannot reset the controller back to the factory settings. However, if you update the firmware that will remove the configuration and the controller will just read "firmware update successful".

1. Click the Support link from your home page. 2. Click Firmware in the Downloads section. 3. Follow the instructions to upgrade your firmware. 4. Once the firmware upgrade is complete, your controller will display the message Firmware Upgrade Successful. 5. The controller will be unusable until it is updated with a configuration. To add a configuration to the controller, click Update My Controller.

How long can I expect the batteries to last?
Battery life is typically two to four months with the controller. The actual battery life depends on lithium ion.

You can extend the battery life of your controller by lowering the backlight timer. To adjust the backlight timer login to your home page, and then:

How do I use the 'Help' button on the Controller?
The Help button assists the user with troubleshooting and synchronizing devices controlled by the Controller. Press the Help button to display a series of questions on the LCD screen and answer accordingly.


Play Station 2 Slimline Users
You have added a Play Station 2 Slimline version.

If you do not own the Slimline version please re-add the device with the model number: PS2. You can do this by clicking Add a Device from your Monster Home page, after you have completed the initial setup.


How do I remove the Monster Desktop Messenger (MDM) from Windows?
Click the Windows Start button and then click Control Panel
Click Add/Remove Programs.
In the Add/Remove Programs window select Monster Desktop Messenger and click Remove. Windows will ask you to confirm uninstalling the program, click Yes.
Once the program has been uninstalled, close the Add/Remove Programs window.


NOTICE
A temporary problem has been discovered with the update phase of setting up your controller.

At the end of the update phase, the Monster Controller update application may stop responding (for example, you can't close the Monstyer Update Application window).

At that point please perform the following:
1. Disconnect your controller from the USB cable. You will then see the following warning message:
2. Remove the batteries from the controller.
3. Reinstall the batteries.
Your configuration will not be affected.

After reinstalling the batteries, your controller should work as expected. We are working hard to resolve this temporary problem as quickly as possible.


When I install the software, I receive an error message
A temporary problem has been discovered with the update phase of setting up your controller.

At the end of the update phase, the Controller reports all 16xx errors related to a problem with the windows InstallShield. Some common errors are:

1608 Unable to Create InstallDriver Instance
1603 Fatal Error During Installation

The InstallShield software is used to install applications on your computer. If you receive a 16xx error it may be due to the InstallShield software, improper drive settings, or it may be corrupt.
Re-install the latest software by clicking Support from your members account.
Click Software in the Downloads section.
Follow the instructions to download the latest software.
Reboot your computer and install the software file you downloaded in step 3.

Will I be able to see the song titles, artist information, or playlist info on my factory radio?
No. Unfortunately the limitations of most factory car stereos do not allow text to be displayed beyond just Disc and Track numbers. Even if your particular factory stereo is capable of text display, iCruze does not support this feature at this time. The iCruze optional auxiliary display has the ability to show Song Title and Artist Information in a convenient, easy-to-read, dash-mountable display.


The iCruze shows My Top Rated, Top 25 Most Played, OnTheGo, etc for my playlists. What’s wrong?
iCruze treats those as playlists even though you did not create them. You have either not created playlists or you may have named them incorrectly. Be sure to read the iCruze manual on playlists and then read your iTunes instructions on how to create playlists.


I select disc 6 on my stereo and iCruze seems to lock up. If I select another disc it works, what’s going on?
This is similar to the question above. You either do not have a 6th playlist or it is empty. If you did create a 6th playlist, but put nothing in it, the iCruze is simply playing what’s there. If your vehicle’s head unit can access more than 6, then you should create and put songs into that number of playlists.


How do I control iCruze with my factory car stereo?
The same way that you control your factory CD changer. The CD changer select button now activates iCruze. The buttons that accessed "Discs" in the past now access playlists. The same FF, RW and Random keys that were used for the CD changer, now work for the songs contained on your iPod.


Can I install iCruze myself?
Monster strongly recommends professional installation. In order to install iCruze you should ideally have had past experience with head unit and CD changer installations, as these steps are very similar to what is involved in the installation process for iCruze. You should be familiar with how to remove the dash panels, the factory stereo and other assorted interior panels for your particular vehicle. You will need at least some basic tools which may include: panel removal tool, ratcheting screwdriver set with phillips & flathead bits, ratcheting socket set with assorted sockets, crimping tool kit with crimp connectors or soldering iron, wire strippers/cutters and zip ties.


Will I be able to sort by playlist?
No. Unfortunately the inherent limitations associated with the remote access and control of iPods prevent sorting by playlists.


Will the On-The-Go playlist work on the iCruze?
Yes. As long as the On-The-Go playlist appears as one of the first 6 playlists. On some vehicles, you can control up to ten playlists which means On-The-Go needs to be on the top 10 playlist. iPod arranges the playlist alphabetically so make sure you arrange them as necessary.


There are so many versions of the iPod now. Is mine compatible?
Most likely, yes. Any iPod (including iPod by HP) with a dock connector is compatible. The latest versions including, Nano, Color and Video all have dock connectors. The Shuffle and iPods without a dock connector will not interface with iCruze.


Why do I need to purchase an iCruze module?
The modules translate your car's CD changer language to be able to talk to iCruze. The iCruze uses the same language as Alpine's M-Bus.


I have an Alpine Ai-NET CD player. Will it work with the iCruze?
No. iCruze uses Alpine's M-Bus architecture.


I currently have a factory CD changer installed in my vehicle. Will it still work after iCruze is installed?
No. iCruze needs to plug into that same CD changer port on your factory car stereo. Once iCruze is installed, your factory CD changer is disabled.


I have a factory installed in-dash multi-disc CD changer in my vehicle. Will iCruze work?
In some cases. Most vehicles, with integrated in-dash CD changers (all one unit) typically are NOT compatible because there are no options for an additional external CD changer, therefore there is no place to plug in iCruze. If your vehicle does have an option for an additional external CD changer (i.e. trunk mount), or your vehicle has a separate in-dash CD changer mounted in a separate slot from your main stereo, and can be unplugged in favor of an additional external CD changer (i.e. trunk mount), then iCruze is compatible with your vehicle. Please refer to your vehicle's owner's manual, or your local dealership for clarification as to whether your car stereo is capable of controlling an additional external CD changer.


I don't have a factory CD changer installed in my vehicle, but I’ve checked with my dealer or I’ve read in the owner’s manual that my factory stereo has the capability of controlling one. Will iCruze work?
Yes.


I don't see my vehicle listed on the application chart. When will a module be available for my make/model?
New modules are being developed on a regular basis. Check back each month to see which new vehicles are iCruze capable.


iPod charging
The iCruze allows the iPod to charge while connected including after the ignition is turned off. The iCruze will only continue to charge the iPod for one charge cycle and then turn off. If, however, you have a faulty iPod this may cause the iPod to continually draw power from the vehicle while the vehicle is off.


iPod Comm Error
It has been noticed on the iPod photo (with the latest firmware release) that when powering on, it sometimes cannot accept a new Comm link. This is something seen on the older iPods until Apple released a firmware revision to fix it. If this happens, the iCruze LCD will display “iPod Comm Error”. The iPod will correct itself if the dock connector is disconnected, and then reconnected.


Will any of my vehicle's factory functions become disabled after I install iCruze
Select vehicles will lose functionality of select features. Select GM models may lose XM Satellite Radio and/or Rear Seat Entertainment control. Please refer to the iCruze online configurator for a complete list of the exceptions that may pertain to your particular vehicle.


iPod Paused after turning on the ignition, or displaying incorrect playlist number
Certain interfaces that mate with the iCruze issue toggle play commands after ignition cycles. The iPod uses a toggle play/pause button to start play of a playlist. Since the interface does not always know the state of the iPod after an ignition cycle, you may find that the iPod will come up after an ignition cycle in the paused state. This is easily remedied by pushing any track or disc access button on the head unit. Also, if your head unit has a play/pause button, you can use that as well to start the iPod. Also, some interfaces/interfaces do not re-check the disc (playlist) number a key cycle. You may find that after a key cycle, the playlist number displayed does not match the playlist currently playing. The track number and the song and artist information on the LCD will be correct, however. This will self correct after some play time, or it can be corrected by pressing any track or disc access button.


iPod in random mode
Certain head units try to control the randomizing process by selecting track numbers and issuing commands to go to specific tracks. This is incompatible with the iPod random process, where the iPod is always in control of the random tracks that it is choosing for playback. Because of that, you may find in some applications while in random mode, that the head unit may get out of sync with the iPod numbering scheme. This will only be an issue when using the remote LCD display and will usually exhibit itself by not displaying the current song and artist title on the LCD display. If this happens, it is easily remedied by pressing the track back button to start the current track again. This will resync the numbering schemes while remaining in random mode.


iPod RESET required
Some iPods can disable serial communications if they are removed from the serial UART connection mid-communication. What this will do is not allow the iPod to reconnect to iCruze. When plugging the iPod into the iCruze with the dock connector, if the LCD stops at MONSTER ICRUZE, and the iPod does not display the iCruze logo, then the iPod needs to be reset. This can be done by pressing both the Menu and select buttons on the face of the iPod for 6 seconds which will bring up the Apple icon on the iPod display and then reset the serial communications in the iPod. The iPod will then connect correctly to the iCruze. This reset can be performed with the iPod connected or disconnected to the iCruze cable.


Will my vehicle's manufacturer's warranty be voided if I install iCruze?
No. It is against the law for your dealership to void your entire warranty because you installed an aftermarket component such as iCruze. Your dealership has the right to void a portion of the warranty that pertains only to the factory car stereo, but the remainder of your warranty remains intact.

I'm using an iCarPlay Wireless with an iPod Nano and I'm not getting any audio.
This issue should be resolved by resetting your iPod Nano. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.


My cigarette lighter connection does not turn off with the ignition. Will leaving my FM transmitter plugged-in drain my battery?
Power draw is minimal. It would take several weeks to drain your battery.


What is the difference between the iCarPlay Wireless and the iCarPlay Wireless Plus?
The iCarPlay Wireless Plus gives you the ability to program it to any frequency. Excluding 87.7MHz and 87.9MHz. iCarPlay Wireless is preset to 8 stations only. If you live in a metro area the iCarPlay Wireless Plus is recommended.

Do I need a special type of cable to install behind walls/construction?
Yes, you want to use a UL(Underwriters Laboratory) approved cable. Monster Cable manufactures a full line of UL approved cables you can examine under the "Custom Install" category of the FAQ section.


What are "turbine" connectors?
Monster’s unique turbine design allows for maximum contact pressure, contact points and contact mass, all of which are highly important for signal transfer. This design also adds strength and durability. It is often helpful to turn the connector clockwise, to the right, when plugging in or removing the cable.


Does Monster use oxygen-free copper?

What is Multi-Twist construction?
Multi-Twist construction is a design where the positive and negative conductors within a cable are tightly twisted together causing any external noise or interference to cancel itself out. This design was originally used by Bell Labs during its infancy to run long lengths of cable throughout the country to cancel out noise.

This is a dielectric molding that surrounds the conductor inside the jacket to maintain a 75 ohm resistance load within the cable. to keep a perfect 75 ohm load, there must be equal distance between the conductor and outer shield. to do this, we inject thousands of tiny nitrogen bubbles inside the dielectric that provides a walll between the conductor and shield. Maintaining this resistance is paramount for receiving a clear and precise picture.

What do I do with the Coax/Phone Cables included with my Monster Power Center?
These cables are used to hook up cable lines and phone lines through the Monster Cables Coax and Phone line connections for proper surge protection.


What do I do if I hear a high pitched alarm from the Monster Power Center?
Audible alarm sounds when the protection circuit has been disabled. The product should be immediately unplugged. Contact your dealer or Monster Cable for service.


Can I leave my Monster Power Center on all the time?
Yes, there is no harm done to the Power Center if it is left on at all times.


Will the Monster Power Center restrict current to my power amplifiers?
No. On the models that contain High Current Filters, we have passed over 21,000 watts of power through to demonstrate its capabilities. For Monster Power Centers that do not have High Current Filters, the fillter becomes saturated for a few Milliseconds but does not impede current flow.


What are "turbine" connectors?
Monster’s unique turbine design allows for maximum contact pressure, contact points and contact mass, all of which are highly important for signal transfer. This design also adds strength and durability. It is often helpful to turn the connector clockwise, to the right, when plugging in or removing the cable.

What should be the longest length to run my interconnect cables?
We don’t advise running your cables any more than thirty feet to prevent significant signal loss. If you are using balanced (XLR or TRS type) it is possible to run cables much longer.


What is the difference between a Monster SmartView™ and PerfectView™ Mount?
Monster has a variety of different mounts for different TV sizes and needs. What is a Monster FlatScreen PowerMount™?
Our all-in-one Monster PowerMounts feature two built-in Monster Power® AC outlets, both with Clean Power™ filtering circuitry and SurgeGuard™ protection. What should I know before mounting my flatscreen TV?
Different mounts are made for different flatscreen TV sizes. Your mount must support the screen size/weight of your TV. For example, 10”-to-24” LCD TVs require mounts that can support 40 lbs. of weight. Larger 37-to-60” LCD and plasma TVs typically require mounts that can support 200 lbs. of weight. Also, flatscreen televisions are mountable to different types of surfaces, including wall stud and masonry. Wall-stud mounting means attaching the mount to a wood stud in your wall. Smaller mounts for 10”-to-24” TVs usually require just one wood stud. Larger mounts for 26”-to-37” and 37”-to-60” TVs require two wall studs. Masonry mounting (brick/concrete) requires specialized mounting anchors, as well as special tools and knowledge. Monster recommends hiring a professional installer when mounting to masonry.


Do Monster FlatScreen Mounts support both LCD and plasma TVs?
Yes. Monster FlatScreen Mounts are universal. They are made for specific flatscreen TV sizes, not particular types of flatscreen TVs. As a result, all Monster FlatScreen Mounts support both LCD and plasma displays. Display technology (LCD, plasma) is not really a factor in selecting a flatscreen mount. It is critical, however, to choose the correct FlatScreen mount for your TV size and weight. Installing a large LCD or plasma TV, for example, on an undersized mount is reckless and dangerous. If mounting a 26”-to-37” LCD or Plasma, use a Monster FlatScreen SmartView 200M, SmarView 300M (with Tilting V-Bars) or articulating PerfectView 400M. If mounting a larger 37”-to-60” LCD or plasma, use a SmartView 200L or 300L. In the past, manufactures did make specific mounts for LCD and plasma flatscreen TVs. What is an articulating mount?
Articulating mounts come in different configurations, but all feature two arms for extending the mount and TV from the wall for enhanced viewing. Additionally, most articulating mounts feature independent arm hinges and joints that enhance the mount’s range of motion and adjustment. For example, the PerfectView 400S FlatScreen Mount features Z-Fold Extending Swing Arms and Tri-Hinge Construction, allowing users to swing or pivot the mount 180° left or right at three different joint positions.


What is a tilt/swivel mount?
Tilt/swivel mounts feature a special joint at the mounting plate, enabling the user to tilt their display forward and backward, as well as left and right. Typically, they are designed for 10”-to-24” LCD TVs, mounted to a single wall stud. The SmartView 300S FlatScreen Mount features an All-Directional OmniBall™ adjustment joint, allowing 360° rotation, 20° left/right swivel, and +20/-5° forward/backward tilt.


What is a tilt mount?
Traditional tilt mounts, without “swivel” functionality, are typically for larger 26”-to-37” or 37”-to-60” flatscreen TVs, requiring mounting to two wall studs. They feature special arm or wall plate components that enable the user to tilt their LCD or plasma screen forward, typically up to 20°. For instance, the SmartView 300M and 300L FlatScreen Mounts both feature the patented Tilting V-Bar™ Adjustment System, allowing users to adjust the pitch of their TV from 0° to 20° for reduced glare and improved viewing.


What is a fixed flatscreen mount?
Fixed flatscreen mounts are the most basic form of mount. As a rule, they do not allow any adjustment, such as tilt or extension. Fixed mounts are available for smaller 10”-to-24” LCD TVs, requiring a single wall stud, and larger 26”-to-37” and 37”-to-60” LCD and plasma flatscreen TVs, requiring two wall studs. Fixed mounts have some advantages. They are generally less expensive and easier to install than more sophisticated adjustable mounts. How difficult is to mount a flatscreen TV? Do I need to have any specialized knowledge or skills?

Can I use Monster PowerCells in devices rated for 1.5V batteries?
Yes, Monster PowerCells can be used in any device asking for 1.5V batteries. There is virtually no difference in performance between a 1.2V battery and a 1.5V battery


Can this be used outside of North America?
Yes, this can be used with the proper wall outlet adapter for voltages ranging 110-240volt.


Can I use AAA PowerCells/batteries in my Monster Digital Charger?
Yes. The Monster Digital Charger works for both AA and AAA PowerCells/batteries.


My HT200 has one green LED and one red LED. Is that how it is supposed to be?
Yes the green LED indicates that the HT200 is seeing a proper ground. The red LED indicates that the unit has "Protection On." The colors here are not status specific. There is only cause for concern if the LED is on or off.


What is the screw for on the HT200? Can it be removed?
The screw that comes with the HT200 is designed to take the place of your wall plate screw. It is designed to hold the Power Center firmly in place. If need be it can be removed, simply remove the washer on the backside of the Power Center and pull the screw out.


Do I need a Remote with my Power Center?
Many of our Power Centers can be remotely turned on by a triggering device. Receivers often have AC (two prong power adapter included in our Reference Power Centers) and DC (3.5mm mono to mono cable included in our Reference Power Centers) triggering options. In setting up a Receiver to remotely trigger the Power Center to turn on, make sure that the Receiver is plugged into an unswitched (constant power) outlet.


Should I leave my Power Center on all the time?
It is perfectly fine to leave your Power Center on. Whether your Power Center is on or off it is always protecting your equipment.


Do I need to register my Power Center with Monster Cable?
Registration is not required for your warranty to be valid. Simply maintain a copy of your authorized dealer receipt as proof of purchase.


Is it true that Monster Pro/MI cables can be exchanged at any Monster Pro/MI dealer under the warranty?
Any Monster Pro/MI dealer should be able to exchange the defective cable if they have the product in stock. If your local dealer cannot help you for any reason, please contact Monster to set up an exchange.


What is the difference between all your instrument cables?
We make different cables for different applications. We basically have 2 different cable designs, coaxial and semi balanced. Our S100, Monster Rock and Monster Bass are coaxial cable with a conductor and a shield. The rest are semi-balanced with two conductors and a shield. The S100 cable is an all around entry level cable. Our Monster Rock is a mid-range and punchy cable. Our Bass cable is made with two solid core conductors for that superb bass response. The Monster Jazz is a warm sounding cable. Our Acoustic cable provides the natural richness and warmth you find in Acoustic instruments. Our Performer 500 cable is and advanced all around cable. The Studio Pro 1000 cable is the best cable for recording and will give you the most transparent sound from your instruments.


How do I get a replacement for my broken cable?
All our cables have a lifetime warranty. You can go to your local Guitar Center and if they have the same cable in stock, they can replace them for you. If they don't have your cable in stock, you must call us for a RMA number for replacement. 877-800-8989


I play both Rock and Jazz guitar, what cable should I use?
Since you are playing a wide range of frequencies, the best all around cable not application specific would be our Performer 500 Instrument cable or our Studio Pro 1000 Instrument cable.


What are TT patch bay cables used for?
TT stands for Tiny Telephone. These connectors are found on patch bays of large format mixing consoles. These connectors are balanced 3-pin connectors. They are smaller than the usual 1/4 connectors and allows for more jacks in a patch bay.


Why does my instrument cable have arrows?
There are two typical types of cable construction; coaxial and twisted pair. Coaxial construction, as used in our P500 Rock cable, consists of one conductor and the shield. Twisted Pair construction, used in our P500 Jazz and all Studiolink cables, utilizes two conductors and a tip and the sleeve.


Can my mic cable be used as a connection for powered speakers?
Yes - Powered speakers are expecting to see a Line Level signal, which Monster Mic Cables are capable of handling.


What is the Gauge of my Monster Speaker Cable?
Gauges are approx. in Monster Cables due to Time Correct windings and interior dielectrics: S100= ~16 Gauge, P500- ~14 Gauge and SP1000=~12 Gauge.


Will using a balanced 1/4" connector improve the noise rejection potential of my 1/4" connection?
Only if your 1/4" jack is balanced as well. Using a TRS (or balanced 1/4" connector,) in a TS jack can lead to signal loss. Use the right connector for your jack.


Will the Monster Cable SLDA88 snake work with my other DB25 connections?
Yes - As long as your DB25 connection follows the TASCAM pin out configuration.


I'm using an iCarPlay Wireless with an iPod Nano and I'm not getting any audio.
This issue should be resolved by resetting your iPod Nano. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.


What is the difference between the iCarPlay Wireless and the iCarPlay Wireless Plus?
The iCarPlay Wireless Plus gives you the ability to program it to any frequency. Excluding 87.7MHz and 87.9MHz. iCarPlay Wireless is preset to 8 stations only. If you live in a metro area the iCarPlay Wireless Plus is recommended.
