Herbie Hancock Herbie Hancock

Herbie Hancock will always be one of the most revered and respected figures in jazz. Hancock has always traversed wildly divergent stylistic paths, finding his way easily into jazz, funk, fusion, dance-pop and more.

A classical piano prodigy at age seven, the 20-something Herbie gained his jazz chops handling the keyboards for his mentor Miles Davis. Since then, Hancock has cut a zigzagging forward path, shuttling between almost every development in electronic and acoustic jazz and R&B over the last third of the 20th century, winning eight Grammy Awards along the way.

Still a prolific recording artist and performer at 65, Hancock in August 2005 released the well-received album Possibilities (HearMusic), teaming up with cestablished artists such as Sting, Annie Lennox, John Mayer, Christina Aguilera, Paul Simon and Carlos Santana, as well as up-and-comers like Joss Stone and Damien Rice. His ability to make valid individual statements with this diverse group of artists is part of what makes his compositions and performances so rich. His 24-date 2006 spring and summer tour of the U.S. and Europe will keep Herbie on the road through early August.

Hancock, who shares a mutual admiration society with Head Monster Noel Lee, succinctly sums up his enthusiasm for the company's gear: "You guys make great products."
