Eugene Pao

Eugene.jpgHong Kong's premier jazz guitarist and accomplished composer for film soundtracks and television commercials over last two decades; Eugene has started his performance and recordings with various music legends after his studies in the US and returned to Hong Kong in mid 1980's. He was the owner of Hong Kong's "Jazz Club" back in the 80's.
  • Music greats featured in his early recordings include bassist Eddie Gomez, blue greats Jimmy Witherspoon and saxophonist Michael Brecker.
  • In 1996, released his first solo album, "By The Company You Keep", with the support of drummer Jack DeJonette, bassist John Patitucci and saxophonist Michael Brecker.
  • In 1999, released second solo album that he penned half of the tunes - "This Window", with bassist Jack DeJonette, bassist Marc Johnson and pianist Joey Calderazzo.
  • In 2001, traveled and recorded "Pao" with the Mads Vinding Trio from Denmark in Europe.
  • In 2004, released "Naked Time", a fiery 1994 recording with saxophonist Michael Brecker, James Genus, Dan Gottlieb, Jeff Andrews, Manolo Badrena and compatriot Ted Lo.
  • In 2005, released "Eugene Pao Project", a multi-media DVD concept featured top Asian musicians, recorded, mixed and filmed in 5.1 surround sound.
  • In 2006, invited to form the "Asian Super Guitar Project", a guitar trio, with Japan guitarist Kazumi Watanabe and Korean guitarist Jack Lee.
  • In 2006, the guitar trio recorded and released "Guitar Sam Guk Ji" an album gathering and mixing differences of Japanese, Chinese and Korean cultures, influences, politics and religions.
  • He performs regularly in international jazz festivals, concert halls and jazz clubs.
