Born and raised in Austin, TX, Gary Clark began playing guitar at age 12. He began performing throughout his early teens before emerging on the radar of legendary promoter Clifford Antone, owner of Austin music club Antone's. As his initial flame was fanned over time, and eventually spread into a full-blown wildfire throughout Texas. Initially, drawing from various rock styles of the past ranging from alternative rock/punk/funk/blues/grunge/folk, his peers and predecessors alike have all showered him with acclaim for his galvanizing live performances and prodigious abilities as a multi-faceted artist.
Over the years, Clark has won countless awards as an artist all around the country. In 2001, Austin’s mayor, Kirk Watson, declared May 3rd to be “Gary Clark Jr. Day” when Clark was just 17 years old. In 2010, he performed alongside Eric Clapton and Sheryl Crow at Crossroads Guitar Festival. Not only has Clark garnered the attention and respect of the music masses, his ubiquitous talents have attracted a veritable army of support from various legendary and contemporary artists including accolades from Alicia Keys, Paul McCartney, Sheryl Crow, Roger Waters, Eric Clapton, Citizen Cope, Damian Marley, Grace Potter, Ron Wood, and Questlove.
