HDMI 1.4 Enables New Experiences
in High Definition

 

Back in late 2006, when the HDMI 1.3 specification was announced, it spurred the development of higher resolution displays supporting 1080p, more realistic color gradations with Deep Color, new digital audio formats, and more. In May, 2009, HDMI Licensing, LLC unveiled HDMI 1.4.

Some of the major enhancements it calls for include:

• 4K x 2K Support – video resolutions far beyond 1080p that rival the
• 3D Over HDMI – defines standards for 3D video formats that pave the way for more realistic 3D games and home theater experiences.
• Additional Color Spaces – adds support for the color reproduction systems used by digital cameras and personal computers.
• HDMI Ethernet Channel – using a single HDMI cable, enables your Internet-capable components to connect online and to each other. Separate Ethernet cable no longer needed.
• Audio Return Channel – using a single HDMI cable, allows an HDTV with built-in tuner to send audio data "upstream" to a surround sound system. Separate audio cable no longer needed.

The current line of Monster cables for HDMI already support 4K x 2K, 3D Over HDMI, Additional Color Spaces, and the Audio Return Channel. What’s more, The Monster 1.4 Upgrade Program states that: Longer term, as components supporting the full range of HDMI 1.4 features come to market and you opt to invest in a HDMI 1.4 capable source and display, the Monster cables you bought today will entitle you this upgrade.
